Not Once But Twice

It's now nightfall. I keep looking over my shoulder to make sure the boy's still out.

My heart clinches when I look at him.

He could of had a life; a family; but I took that from him. The thought of him having a stable home brought tears to my eyes, till the point I couldn't see. Immediately, I pulled over.

I couldn't risk crashing.

The truck came screeching to a halt. I gripped the wheel so tight my knuckles were white. Don't cry, I mentally screamed to myself. I tasted a metallic taste. Then I realized I was biting my tongue, to restrain the tears. But it was too late. There was no stopping the tears. All the years of concealing my feelings, all poured down on me at once. All the kids I brought in. The sales. The life I wish I could've had.....My dad.  In this moment of weakness, I heard a soft grunt. He's up. I quickly got my act together, and braced myself for his reaction.

At first he just tossed and turned a little, but then he just froze. As if he was scared to move. I think he noticed he wasn't alone. "Don't move, or try to leave, or break something, or move," I stated meekly.

That's convincing.

When the boy heard my voice he seemed at ease. This is unusual. People aren't just calm when they're taken. Hesitantly, I inched towards him. Once I was as close as I felt was safe, I slowly tried to remove the duct tape. He flinched at my touch, but was at ease again. I slowly removed the tape. Once I got the tape off, I awaited a blood curdling scream for help. There wasn't one. By now, I'm seriously contemplating whether this boy was a good pick or not. "What's your name." I said with confidence.

"I'm Dalton. Nice to meet ya," He replied in a snarky monotone. Thrown back by his reply, I quickly regained my composure. "I don't know if you noticed, but you're at my mercy. So, if you don't want to get hurt, I suggest you watch your tone." The bo- Dalton didn't seem too concerned about my threat. Now what? "Now, you will do as I say. If you want to keep your life, that is. You're going to keep quite, then when we get to our destination, you'll exit the truck with ease; and not try to run. Am I clear?" Hmmm, maybe I can do this kidnapping business. " Yes, ma'am," Dalton replied, suppressing a smile. Hit him, my subconscious screamed at me. I can't.

What would your dad say? And you actually think you'll go to collage. Squeezing my eyes shut, without thinking, I cocked my hand back and hit him.

The blow was pure adrenaline. Enough to make him fall backwards.

He landed with a thud, knocking off his blindfold. Now, his blindfold being off is no biggy, but what really scared me was the fact he broke free from his restraints. I'm now vulnerable. He can definitely overpower me.

"I am so-," I was cut off with a sharp slap. I stumbled back till me body was firmly pressed in to the drivers seat, of the truck.

He hit me. He seriously just hit me.

I was too stunned to make a move, and catch him. Look what you did. Now you're going to jail, smart one.  Before I could even regain my equilibrium, he fell to his knees, and handed me one of the ropes. " Here, you need to retie me," he said firmly. What did he just say? I didn't have time to run over it in my head. He's practically giving himself up; take it.  I immediately obliged, and bound his hands as quickly as humanly possible. I knew I tied it too tightly, but I sure as heck won't let him break free again.Just for safety measures, I fastened a set of cuffs on him. I don't know why I didn't stick to cuffs in the first place.

I, once again, blindfolded him. There, now all I have to do is get him to my dad. Then I'll never have to worry about this kid again. The truck engine roared to life, as I sped down the abandoned road. It wasn't long before I pulled up. The same "Smiles for Miles" sign stood in the drive way. We pose as an adoption company, to hide what we really are. Monsters.
