when I was four I met someone, someone who would change my life forever. I remember I was staring out the window as the boy about my age got out of the car shyly and looked around.

"mommy! someone's trying to steal Annie's house!" I shouted and my mother appeared next to me

"i'm sure he's not Amy..." she said wiping her hands on a tea towel. I stared at him with sheer excitement. I ran upstairs and pulled on my jeans, top and my never-been-touched white vans.

"mommy I wanna go over there!" I said.

"go over then Amy! I'll come over later on OK?" she said. I felt the happiness flood through my body. I ran over to Annie's house and knocked politely on the door. the woman opened the door and smiled

"hello Amy!" she said as I noticed the figure hiding behind her.

"Mrs Annie, who is that?" I asked nicely.

"this is Luke. come on Luke! say hello to Amy!"

Luke peeked round and whispered a small

"hello Amy." instantly after he hid again.

"would you like to come in?" Annie asked

I nodded and she let me in. I sat on the stairs with Luke as Annie brought through a tray of cookies and milk.

"I like, your shoes Amy..." Luke mumbled

"thank you! I never touched them till today?"

"I had a pair just like them back home?"

his accent seemed strange.

"back home?"

"Australia! that's where I'm from. I lived in Sydney with my parents but then my mum had to work and my dad was away so they sent me here."

"how long for Luke?"

"I don't know. forever I hope. my mummy and daddy fight a lot so I don't really enjoy being at home."

"so what did you do for fun?"

"same as always silly! I played with toys!" Luke was starting to become comfortable which was good because I had a feeling we would be good friends. we sat there for hours happily dunking cookies in milk and talking and Luke told me stories about Australia and his family. he never ceased to amaze me with his stories, they were always amazing.

a few weeks later me and Luke were sat in a den on my floor. it was held up like a teepee.

"I don't like thunder Amy..." Luke said as a clap of thunder went off outside.

"neither do I Luke..." I said as I took his small hands in mine. I picked up a pen and wrote on his wrist

Luke and Amy, thunder buddies.

Luke looked at it and wrote the same on my wrist. as the thunder went off and we talked more and more the less we started to be scared. we should of been scared. not of the thunder. but the outside world. we had no idea what it was like... until we grew up.

we lay there in our little den. I could feel Luke fidgeting nervously.

"Luke? what's up?"

"I miss my parents..."

"oh... you'll be fine. plus you have me!"

"that's defiantly a plus..." he mumbled

"just close your eyes and think happy thoughts OK?"

he reached out his small hand and I took it.  the next day we woke at five in the morning. we sat up and started to talk

"when I'm older, I wanna be a guitarist, travel the world with my band or something! what about you?"

"I wanna just..."

"what?"

"I wanna go with you..."

"yet! you can come with me!" his face lit up and he jumped around happily. little did we know that that would never happen. Luke would leave and leave me behind along with this deadbeat town. I was probably dragging him down with me anyways...
