Chapter Three

Candy’s POV

I was still awake when Karm entered my room. What is he doing? I thought. I kept my eyes closed, so it looked like I was asleep. Karma walked over, his gray and white socks padding on the hardwood floor. He bent down (I know because I could feel his soft breath) and kissed me on the forehead.

Suddenly I knew he was going to give himself up. I guess I had known all along. He never was a very good liar. I knew I had to follow him so he didn’t get killed. This was just like my nightmare from so long ago. I had just found out what my greatest fear was. It was Karma dying. I changed into Mew form and quietly followed him from a distance.

Karma jumped from building to building like he didn’t want anybody to follow him. I followed him for about twenty minutes, then he stopped on a rooftop. The sky was overcast, like the heavens didn’t want to find out what was going to happen next. I kind of agreed with the sky. Karma opened his eyes, and they glowed bright blue in the darkness. I knew that when he did that, he was calling another alien. And then Empress Ika walked into view from the shadows.

I’d never really seen her at all before. Ika was never on tv, or at any of the fights with the Mews. To think that she would come when Karma called her was unbelievable. She looked about 23, with three piercings in each ear. They reminded me sickeningly of my own three piercings. It brought me to the thought that, even though she was trying to kill all of the humans, she was at least natural. I was not natural. Some of the genes swimming in my body weren’t human. Weren’t mine.

She had on cherry-colored lipstick and thick black eyeliner. Ika’s hair was short and brown; it mocked me with it’s perfect straightness. She wore a tank top made of dark fabric with a large triangle cut away from the belly. Ribbons were tied under her tank top and halfway down her arms. She had eerie lime green eyes. Empress Ika strided forward, smirking at Karma.

“Why, it’s the little traitor come crawling back!” She swished her curved blade that was shaped like a closed half circle (she held the straight edge), and cut into the skin on Karma’s neck. He didn’t even flinch. It wasn’t enough to kill him, but his black blood was dripping down his neck.

“I see you’re doing well, sister.” Karma said softly. Ika rolled her eyes. “I’m your sister no longer. Once they picked me as Empress, you abandoned me just because you didn’t like my support of Earth Invasion. Are families supposed to do that to each other?” Karma kept his eyes closed. “You know just as well as I do that sending troops to kill innocent people isn’t right.” he replied.

“How annoying.” said Ika, glaring at Karma. “I know you’re the kagi.” she stated matter-of-factly. Karma opened one eye, lazily. Ika smirked at her younger brother. “You can be sure, that, although I won’t kill you, I will torture you until you beg for death.” Karma sighed. “Fine. I deserve it.” He slipped off his vest, right then and there. I was hiding behind a wall, and, I can assure you, that if I were in an anime I would have had a massive nosebleed.

Ika held up her sharp half-circle. “First, I think I’ll chop of those annoying ears.” No! My eyes widened in shock. I leapt out from behind the wall. And, before I knew it, I was attacking.

“Candy….Karma!” I thrust out my weapon, a double-sided sword, and a huge explosion of energy shot right at Ika. She simply lifted her arm to deflect the blow. “Tsk, tsk, Karma, looks like you’ve got yourself a girlfriend.” she said sarcastically. She threw her weapon into the air and it morphed into a sharp, pointed, silver sword.

She snatched it out of the air, and before I knew it, she had run the sword through me. “CANDY!!!!!!!” screamed Karma. Ika raised her blade to stab me again, but Karma ran in front of me. I saw a splash of Karma’s black blood, and he staggered, then fell over next to me. He grabbed me by the shoulders.

“Why did you come?” he asked, choking on tears and blood. I stared into his pale blue eyes. “Because I love you, Karma.” I said earnestly, blood gushing from my stomach and out my mouth, dripping down my lips. With the last of my strength, I leaned up and kissed him. And then I died. Why must I be so useless? I relaxed and went limp, Karma still holding me, both of us being drained of blood. The black mixed with the red, making a beautiful shade.

Karma squeezed his eyes shut. “You can’t die, Candy! I….love you too.” Karma’s lungs filled up with the black liquid. See you in heaven, Candy. He thought. And then he died, and when he passed the veil, the onlooking Ika died as well. She had been frantically trying to figure out a loophole. In a way she had killed herself by killing Karma on accident.

I had thought it impossible, but Karma’s warm body became cold as snow.
