"I won't hurt you," said the voice in the dark.
"Who... who are you?" replied a woman's quivering voice.
"That is of little importance. You are alive. But if you wish to stay that way...I will need your full compliance."
Chapter 1
Isabella Wilson's childhood was very difficult. It wasn't always that way. In her quaint little cottage lived the small family, just her mother, her father, and her. But on day, it all changed. Isabella's life would never be the same again.
And, reader, you might be asking, what is this dramatic change? What happened that was so terrible, so gruesome, that is changed her life forever? Well, reader, I'll tell you. Her mother, Mia Wilson, left her at the age of eight. She asked Isabella to come with her. She said her father was bad news. One thing was peculiar about this situation. When Isabella asked why, her mother would be very general and always answer the question indirectly.
"Bad thing will happen, my dear Isabella," she warned, "and if I leave without you, you will likely never see me again."
"What bad things? Mom, please tell me. I'm scared," said Isabella
"And rightly scared at that, my dear. But I can't speak of the bad things. That would make them worse."
But sweet little eight year old Isabella Wilson, loyal to her father, would never leave him. Especially after seeing the despair in his face with just the threat of him leaving.
"No, Mother," she said, tears streaming down her face. "I can't. Not even for you."
"You've made your decision then, said her mother. With that, she turned on her heel and strolled off into the distance.
From then on, Isabella knew her mother as the traitor who abandoned her and her father. But she didn't know what her mother heard the previous night. Actually, she did, but she managed to convince herself that this was all a dream:
"You can't do this! What about Isabella, what about me?" cried her mother.
" They'll kill me if I don't, Mia. I can't." sobbed her father.
"Leave then. Or I will. And I will take Isabella."
"You can't force her to go."
"I can tell her. I'll tell her everything."
"You can't. They'll take you. More importantly, they'll take our child. She has to be safe in the midst of all this."
"You told me- promised me that we would be safe. That our child would always come first. That you would stay safe. And I know that you claim that you're doing this for our safety, but you've done the opposite. By joining them, by even staying in contact with them you've jeopardized our safety.
"Please, help me. I need you"
"No. We're done. It's over. If you needed me, you would've asked. You're in too deep now to turn back."
With that, young Isabella fell asleep.
The next day, her father was anxious. He paced around as if he were in a cage. Isabella hadn't seen him this stressed since... well, never. He kept saying, "They'll find us." Young Isabella didn't understand, but she was stressed out and worried too.
"Please, Daddy, tell me why you're worried. I need to know. Please!" she begged, looking up into her father's face.
"Isabella, don't worry about it. I'm sorry and I love you," said her father.
"But what is it? I can help," she said.
"No, you can't. I wish you could."
"How do you know? I don't even know what you're talking about."
