"Aiden, are you listening to me?"
Aiden was snapped back into reality by the punch in the shoulder he just received, courtesy of the short girl Michelle to his right. They were walking down the hall towards the computer lab.
"What," he asked her.
He was remembering the dream that he had last night - and every other night for the past month. Always that same blonde lady, and that weird monster. He knew it wasn't real, but that scream still made him shiver.
They arrived at the lab and Michelle threw herself in the way of the door.
"Would you stop ignoring me!" She was really upset this time. "What's wrong with you? You're just so... so out of it lately."
Aiden hadn't thought about it, but he had been a little reclusive lately. It was that dream. That stupid dream. Why couldn't he get without of his head?
"I'm sorry," he apologized, "it's just, I haven't been sleeping too well lately."
"Is it that dream again? The one with that awesome blonde lady?"
"Yeah. You wouldn't it was so cool if you saw it every night. That man screaming, it just freaks me out."
This was true. But what really bothered Aiden was that even though he knew it was a dream, it all seemed so real. It felt more like memory than a dream. But that was impossible.
"Hey," Michelle put her hand on his shoulder, "it's just a dream. Okay?"
"Yeah," he said, trying to convince himself, "it's just a dream.
Through the glass windows, the man could see his target. The boy with the almost-white hair. The short girl with him - she was always with him. She smelled horrible, like scorched meat.
This must be done privately. No witnesses.
What a pain. It would be so much more exciting if there were friends to watch. The man got goosebumps at this thought. His black eyes lit up like the fires of hell itself as he played his fantasy out in his mind. His knuckles cracked against his pale skin while his fist clenched in pleasure.
A bell rung loudly trough the air and interrupted the silence. The humans started exiting the building. It was about time.
The students walked blindly by the tree he was hiding in. Their scents wafted through the air, filling his nostrils. His eyes rolled back into his head as he caught each of their aromas.
Maybe he could just get one for a quick snack.
This was out of the question. He had a job to do. The filthy little things didn't know how lucky they were. He'd find dinner later. Right now, like a demonic lion, he would wait for his prey. He dug his nails into the bark of the tree, almost breaking it, and waited patiently.
It was dark outside when Aiden decided to call it a night and save the project he had been working on for class. He slid his laptop into his bag and slung it onto his back.
Moonlight reflected off of the floor when he walked into the hallway, giving it this creepy but beautiful light. As Aiden walked towards the exit, he felt like someone was watching him. This was ridiculous, but he quickened his pace just the same.
With his long strides, it wasn't long before he stepped out of the front door of the school. He looked around at the empty dark parking lot and spotted his car in the farthest spot from the door. Fantastic.
Aiden pulled out his keys and headed towards his car. The moon was full tonight so he didn't need to use the flashlight on his phone like he normally would.
