Chapter 2: Nickname?
"Everyone, this is A.J Hill. I want you to welcome her to our school and treat her with the respect you treat each other with," the physics teacher explains.
I take a seat in the back, where a girl sat next to me drawing a bundle of trees. I would have introduced myself and asked for her name as well, but she didn't seem like the type who wanted to talk. I lay back into the chair, taking notes down on everything the teacher acknowledged to us.
Physics was always one of my favourite classes. I loved the many sciences there were, but most of all I loved finding out the formulas to how things worked, how everything's put together. Science was always my best subject academically.
"Okay class, before you all pack your things to rush out of here, because of course I know how much you guys hate me-"
"Awe, come on Mrs. Fellows! You know we love you!" A student comments, creating a rise of giggles and agreement amongst the class.
"Thank you, Oz. I strongly appreciate it." Mrs. Fellows smiles, "now, as I was saying. Before I dismiss you guys, I want you to choose a partner that you will spend the rest of this year sitting with, sharing ideas with, and working together on projects like the one I am about to assign!"
Plenty of groans arose from the students, carried by disapproving remarks. It quickly turned into a debate between class against teacher, somehow Mrs. Fellows won and began explaining the project. I elegantly packed my notebook into my back pack, hoping someone would come to my rescue and ask to be my partner.
"Kristina Shadows, do you want to be my partner?" The girl sitting beside me hurriedly appeared by my side, offering her hand.
I took it in mine and shook, haven't done that since I met Mason's parents for the first time back home, I thought. I peer into Kristina's eyes, it looked as if she were wearing coloured contacts, but somehow I was unsure.
"Yeah, sure!"
"Great, so maybe I can bring you to my house sometime later this week? Wednesday?" She offers, writing her address onto a piece of paper.
With a nod, I take the looseleaf, tucking it securely into one of the front pockets in my jeans. Kristina strides past me, and through the door. I couldn't help but notice the gracefulness that her body seemed to give off.
Shaking the thoughts out of my head, I make towards the exit, stopping to the upsetting emotion I was being watched. Snapping my neck to examine the room , I come up to be the only one present here. Well that was weird. Moving along to my locker I just couldn't sliver away the feeling I had a pair of eyes on me.
"Hey, A.J!" Someone shouts.
Cody, the guy who showed me to class when I was completely lost, sprints in my direction. Without trying, a mike long smile spreads across my face.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Not too much, I was just, uh wondering what you were doing after school?" He stutters, yanking at his hair.
Is it just me, or is this guy actually nervous? The beading sweat forming onto his forehead answers my question, he was so fidgety. Rather than reply, I watch intently at how he hops from foot to foot, tapping rapidly on the locker door, looking around in every which way. I oddly found skittishness of this guy cute, I found everything about him cute.
"Hmm, I don't know. Why? What do Mr. Mysterious have planned?" I wink, in a flirty way, signalling to him that he doesn't have to be shy, this gets a laugh from him.
"Would you like to grab a bite tonight? Get to know each other?"
"I'd love that." I smile, "pick me up at seven, 55 Aspen stre-"
"I know where you live," Cody butts in, "I'll see you tonight then! See you around."
I find it kind of odd how someone I recently just met could know where I live, but it is a small town after all, he must know where everyone lives. Grabbing books for my next class-English, I hurry to find someone to direct me.
A tall, skinny blonde girl unlatches the locker next to mine. Her clothes looked like something I would wear, not too fancy, but still pretty and in a way, sexy. She didn't look like someone stuck up or a bitch, like Melanie, but she did have an out-going type vibe.
"Cody Foster, hey?" The girl speaks, knocking me out of my senses. She must have caught me staring.
"Excuse me?" I swallow hard, this is embarrassing.
"I think he has a thing for you, usually he keeps his distance from girls, but you? Oh man, he's all over you!" She bites her lower lip, "names Alex Burden."
"Oh! Right, I'm A.J, you wouldn't mind helping a lost cause, would you?" I pound my fist onto my books, hoping she would accept and attain my needs.
"Right this way new girl!"
Wonderful, that is most likely going to be my nickname for the rest of the school year, 'new girl!'
