"To me makeup is about balance. When the eye makes a statement, the lips should be quiet."

-Francois Nars

"Today the prom committee will be taking votes during your lunch period to decide the theme for this years prom! Our choices are: Masquerade Ball, The Great Gatsby, or The Starry Night. Our theme will be announced at the end of the day," the voice blares over the speakers. No one pays attention to the rest of the announcements. Students start chatting about the themes and which one they think will be best.

"Can I get a woohoo? Under the sea or one of those other basic themes, are not on the list!" Gemma yells as she sprints towards me. Some of our fellow classmates do respond with a "woohoo".

"I still feel bad for last years seniors, they ended high school with candy land as their theme," I reply with a wince. Gemma cringes with me, thanks to social media we got to see how awful it actually was.

"Hey girls! Don't forget to vote for your favorite theme during lunch, we'll also hand out ticket information," Marissa Danvers, head of the prom committee, informs us as she stops to spread prom info.

"Marissa, thank you for not giving us crappy themes," I commend. Marissa beams at my appraisal.

"Well, last year's seniors turned prom into a cringe fest. This year's senior class will make prom stunning," Marissa declares. As dance captain and student council president, Gemma and I have no doubt that this prom will be anything less than perfect.

"With you in charge, our prom won't be a nightmare," Gemma compliments. Marissa's ego doesn't need to be boosted, but it's better to be on her good side.

"What theme are you guys thinking of choosing?" Marissa asks.

"Well, Gatsby seems better as a homecoming theme," Gemma replies. I nod in agreement.

"And masquerade requires a mask. My cut crease cannot be admired if it's hidden behind a mask," I add. Marissa and Gemma nod, everyone at school knows how much I adore makeup.

"That leaves The Starry Night. The art club was hoping for this theme to win, because they're making the decorations. Thanks for the input," Marissa responds. Gemma and I say bye as she walks offs. The bell rings signaling we have five minutes to get to first period.

"Come on, let's go vote first," I say dragging Gemma over to the table the prom committee has set up.

"I am starving. Can't we eat first?" Gemma complains, her voice taking on a whiny tone. She eyes our usual lunch table with longing.

"Food can wait, getting the perfect theme is more important," I counter. Gemma pouts, but comes with me anyway.

We approach the table set up by the prom committee. A I recognize as a junior in our grade hands us a ballot. Using the purple pens provided I put an 'X' next to the theme of my choice: The Starry Night. Folding my ballot in half, I place it in a glittery ballot box. Marissa hands us our prom packets with a smile and a 'thank you'.

"Woah look at the venue," I gasp in awe.

"Woah look at the price," Gemma mimics, her mocking snaps me out of my dreamy haze. My eyes scan the packet, stopping once they reach the bolded price. Uh oh. My dad is going to have a heart attack once he sees this.

Okay so I wanted to get something posted tonight. I'm finally done with finals and school so I have more time to upload and hopefully make them longer. As always thanks for reading!
Xoxo, A
