Chapter 4: Reina
I open my eyes, and a shiver crawls down my spine. I'm in the forest, but this time it's different. This time, the creature isn't chasing me. Spinning, I try to determine which way to go, but everything looks the same. Soon I start to go faster, I try to stop but it's no use. I am no longer in control. Maybe this was what Dorothy felt like when she got swept up by the tornado. The wind encloses me, and I can't see. Now my feet are of the ground. Crap, I hate heights. The wind picks me up, and by now I can see the tops of the trees. I'm going to fall, I know it. I am going to die a terrible painful death, this can't be happening. I squeeze my eyes shut, trying to think of a happy place. A place far away, where I am safely on the ground. Suddenly everything stops. I open one eye to check out my surroundings, then, I open both. A simple staircase going up, that is all. I frown, one minute I'm in a freaky tornado thingy, the next a small square room with no windows, no door, and no roof. I take a deep breath, alright, ok, I can deal. After three steps, I find myself at the bottom of the stairs. After twenty I find myself at the top.
At the top there is a small table, and behind that a door. A small sign accompanies the table saying 'choose yours, first and last'. Walking over I see that the sign was referring to thousands of these little envelopes. First and last must refer to first and last names. I pump my fist, genius! My happiness soon turns to despair however when I realize that I'm going to have to sort through all of these little envelopes to find mine. Hmmm R.T., N.K., R.I., K.K., seems to be every possible combo except R.K. Suddenly my eye catches on an envelop. In beautifully swirled letters sit my initials. Finally. I reach to pick it up. On it's right lay one with M.O. one the front, to it's right L.D. I snicker. M.O.L.D. I have such a weird sense of humor. Opening my envelop, I turn it upside down and shake it gently until something falls out of it. After closer examination I realize that it's a key. Small, rose gold, and bent in an odd shape. Something about it fascinates me though. Walking over to the door I frown, there is no lock anywhere. I try the handle, open. Are you serious? I let out a sigh of annoyance, and shoot a glare at the table, what a waste of time. I stop dead in my tracks. In the room I just opened, on every available surface, sit piles and piles of boxes. Not cardboard or anything, but these ornate jewelry boxes. Each one is different. Out of nowhere a loud voice booms;
"Reina Kelly, soon you will get to choose your powers." Before I have a chance to do anything though, the room fills with a bright, white, light. I shield my eyes from the blinding light. When I open them again, I'm back in my bedroom.
What in the world? Ok, it's official, I am now crazy. Powers? Keys? Boxes? I have gone off the deep end. I look at my alarm clock. 5:20. Are you kidding me? I roll over and try to go back to sleep, but at this point it seems impossible. Rolling over, I grab for my journal. In a huge wave everything comes crashing back to me. Atlas. Whiney Blonde. The journal. Should I write in it? What if there are more copies of the fake. More people monitoring my every word. It is a chance I'm willing to take. I grab a pen.
You wouldn't believe what just happened. First I was in a forest, but then I got scooped up in this tornado thing and dropped in a small room. Then there was this table with these little envelopes, and I had to find one with my initials on it. When I finally did, there was this key that was all bent. Then I walked over to the door to unlock it, but turns out that the door didn't even have a lock. Then I walked into this huge room filled with all these little boxes. Suddenly this voice came out of nowhere say that soon I would get to choose my power. I am so confused.
I slam my journal shut. I am done. This is stupid. Suddenly a wave of exhaustion hits me. I yawn and crawl back under my covers. Whatever. Within a minute I am fast asleep again.
"REINA KELLY DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS" I turn to the loud noise, oh look it's my mom. Suprise, suprise.
"IT IS EIGHT 'O'CLOCK, GET YOUR BUTT OUT OF BED AND DOWNSTAIRS RIGHT NOW!."
