"Wait, no! But, please!" Aurora begged, getting down to the floor and holding her hands close to her heart. "Please don't do this, I need this! I'll do anything!"
"No! I am though with you! You've only worked here three weeks and you've already cost me almost five hundred dollars! You're fired!" shouted Mr.Calvin, her now ex-boss.
Mr. Calvin then walked to the back of the shop and slammed his office door. Aurora then dropped her head to her hands and let a few tears fall, she was now again unemployed and was not getting any money to pay for anything she needed to live.
Aurora collected herself emotionally and pulled herself up from the floor of the little ice cream shop she'd now been fired from. She walked out of the shop fast as possible and into coffee shop a few doors down and sat at a table to cry, this was the third job she'd lost in the past month. Her mind raced with horrible thoughts of how she'd survive without a job, without money, without anyone.
After a few minutes of sobbing in self-pity, Aurora was forced out of the coffee shop as it was time for closing. She abides quietly and left without a word.
As she left the shop though, the street seemed different. It looked more confusing, more complicated than it had since she walked here this morning. Not to mention it was dark and half of the street lights weren't working. But despite this, she started on her way home, walking slowly, trying to comprehend what had made the street look so different.
She'd walked this street thousands of times, so why was it now all of a sudden so different? Maybe it was the odd way the moon light fell upon the old battered up buildings of the neighbor hood, or maybe it was the darkness of all the lights of the stores being off. Maybe it was the absence of any positive life, any children or liveliness.
At what Aurora perceived as half way home she noticed something, the street she walked didn't quite look right, it looked more dirty and sinister than how her usual walks were. This made her nervous, so she walked faster and kept her hands in her pokets and her head toward the ground as she walked. She only looked up when necessary and tried her hardest to make no eye contact with anyone passing by.
Soon, she could see a group of what appeared to be women standing around a corner street light. They appeared to be in skany clothes, short dresses, high heels and so much perfume Aurora could smell it from a while away. There were maybe ten of these lesser dressed women and they all seemed to look about the same in outfit style.
Anxiety about these mysterious corner women filled Aurora and she became wobbly at the thought of human contact with these women down the street. And the closer she got, the more wobbly her legs felt and the weaker her body felt.
Aurora could feel her body's strength deteriorating beneath her weight and that only added more anxiety to her current situation. She even found herself have to breath consciously, rather than how normally it is something people do without notice.
It took Aurora effort and concentration for each breath, yet she never completely get a full breath. her breaths were short and fast and the more she walked and thought, the faster she breathed.
Through all of this, horrible thoughts ran through her mind; 'Were they in a gang?', 'Would they hurt me?', 'Would they do anything to me?', 'Could they gang up on me and kill me?', 'Why are so many women on one corner?', 'What if they're doing drugs?'. Any bad throught possible ran through her mind and her breathing became faster.
By now, Aurora was hyperventilating and stumbling on her own weak feet. Tears sprang from her eyes and she longed to make any sort of noise. However, her throat was tightened from stress and fear so much that not a single sound could escape it's grasp and Aurora felt tortured in her own fit of silence and anxiety.
Eventually, everything became too much for Aurora's body to physically handle, the short fast breathing, weak limbs, horrible thoughts and wobbly legs all overwhelmed her petit body and before she could even shriek out, Aurora fell to the pavement with a thud. Her body was giving out on her and so was her mind. Combined with all the horrible things going on for her body and the impact of the fall Aurora passed out there on the side walk, alone and vulnerable.
