The drive to the Sanctuary seemed never ending to Victoria. The roads were uneven and every time they drove over a bump the creepy man next to her would use it as an excuse to try and feel her up without being obvious about it to the other men. At first she had told him to stop but his hands kept wandering and being trapped in between two guys and strapped down by a seatbelt meant there wasn't much she could do, she was sure everyone in the car had heard her warning but nobody seemed to care at that point whether the girl was comfortable or not.
When they finally arrived it, she was thankful to be able to stretch her legs and stay as far away from the man as possible but the relief she felt was short lived as she now had to deal with Negan again and probably more men that were just as horrible as him.
"I'd give you a grand tour of the place but frankly, I don't give a shit at the moment." Negan's tone was harsh towards the girl, "I have wives to be fucking and they definitely take priority over you, sorry sweetheart." He shrugged before turning and sauntering away. Victoria took note of how everyone seemed to bow to him. No wonder the man had such a big ego. She wondered whether they did it out of respect or out of fear, she came to the conclusion that it was probably a mixture of the two.
"Harry. Take her on a tour and then come back and find me. I'm guessing I got to figure out where the little miss will be staying for the time being." The man who spoke was Negan's right-hand man, she had learnt his name was Simon. She had also learnt that Negan had another right-hand man named Dwight, but there seemed to be a sort of tension between the two of them. She didn't understand how he could have a right-hand man that obviously resented him.
The man from the house back in Alexandria leads the girl through the gardens and towards the main factory building as she thought to herself that she really should at least try and remember that his name is Harry.
"It's honestly not that great a building," He spoke as they walked through the entrance, "But at least you have the greatest tour guide in the whole place." A grin spread across his face, he seemed nice enough but Victoria couldn't be bothered with him during that moment.
"You get stuck doing tours often?" Victoria asked, pretending to be interested. In her head, she mapped out everything, every room, every corner, every exit. She made sure she knew which places had the most guards and which places she could get around unnoticed. In the next few days, she would try to memorise the shift rotation of the guards in case she had to make a cunning escape.
"More than you'd think. Oh and for the record, I'm not gonna hurt you. Trust me, I know what it's like to be kept here against your own will."
"That happen to you?" Victoria was suddenly more interested in what Harry had to say. "You don't act like you are being forced to stay."
"Yeah, to start with I was only here to protect my family but they died anyway." He frowned, his voice cracking slightly when he mentioned the death of his relatives. "But it's either keep working to pay what I owe or a date with Lucille and I know what I'd rather."
"What do you mean owe?"
"This is the cafeteria, meals are at set times and if you miss them then you just gotta go hungry." Victoria nodded as he spoke, "And to answer your question, Negan uses a point system. Everything you use has a value, a certain number of point allocated to it. You earn those points by working. It's like a currency around here. The more you work, the more points you earn and the better life is for you. Just try not a get in too much debt, that's when the trouble starts."
"Noted." Victoria was going to make sure that she used as little as possible to avoid having to repay a load of points.
They continued their tour, Harry pointed out places of interest like the armoury and the doctor's office. She learnt where Negan's room was located and where his wives stayed, but she also learnt that it was out of bounds unless he requested your presence or you were one of his top men. The idea that Negan had more than one wife was astonishing to her, she didn't dare ask but she guessed they were less of wives and more fuck buddies for when he was bored. It just widened her distaste for him, now she knew for sure he was a sexist pig who only saw women as objects. In the back of her mind, she pondered whether these women actually loved him or just put up with him for the benefits that she assumed would come from sleeping with the big boss.
On their way back down they were met by Simon who relieved Harry from his duty of tour guide and took over in leading Victoria to a room.
It was on the second floor, Harry had explained the higher the floor the nicer the room. Therefore hers was one of the shittier rooms in the place, but that was too be expected. She didn't think she had been taken there because Negan wanted to treat her like a queen. If anything, she bet she was only here so that he could keep an eye on her. She was smart enough to notice that Negan was taking away Rick's most able fighters and most important members one by one, it was a safety precaution. If Rick did decide he wanted to rebel, he'd find it difficult without his best men.
"Listen, I get you don't like Negan. What happened to your friends was shitty, but for god's sake just behave. Do what you are told and don't cause a fuss. It'll make things worse for you than they already are and quite frankly makes him a whole lot pissier when he's dealing with us. This is your room, breakfast is from 6 am to 7 am. I'll sort you out with a job tomorrow" Simon may have been Negan's right-hand man, but Victoria didn't hate him. His words may have sounded mean but they gave Victoria a warning that she needed to hear and she was thankful for that. However, it didn't mean she would trust him. Not yet at least.
She stepped past Simon and into the room and as he closed the door she heard the jingling of keys and sound of a lock sliding into place. She knew she had a long way to go before she could earn anybody's trust.
