Part two-

Mike glared at the cereal box, slamming down on the bench. Curse Kevin and his diet! Turning back to the cupboard, Mike rummaged for more food. Nothing. Mike sighed, looking back at the empty cereal box. Who eats All-Bran anyway?

It seemed so quiet, with no one around to make noise. That wasn’t true. That Antonio kid was here. That Antonio kid was cute. Mike’s hand slammed into the bench. Holding back swear words, Mike began to hum to himself, shaking his hand around to stop it hurting. That Antonio kid is not cute! Sure the way his hair spiked was pretty awesome, and the way his brown eyes had looked so lost was intriguing, but he was. Not. Cute.

Mike pulled his samuraisor, flicking open the device, allowing his sword to materialize in his hand. With a quick slash, Mike ripped the bow into pieces.

‘You ok Mike?’ Mike jumped at the voice, nearly dropping his sword, ‘Wow, when you said ‘dead breakfast’, I didn’t think you meant literally…’

Antonio trailed off, twisting his hands awkwardly, as Mike let his sword disappear.

‘What made you get that mad anyway?’ Antonio asked, leaning on the door frame.

Oh fuck it he is cute and you know it, ‘Cereal box was empty,’ Mike pointed at the destroyed box with his thumb.

Antonio nodded slowly. Before he could get a word in, voices filled the air, accompanied by a door being opened, then eventually being closed.

‘Their home,’ Mike sighed, shoving the once cereal box into the bin.

Mike stuffed his samuraisor into the pocket of his jeans. Great. Now they’re home I have to face-

‘Hey Mike!’ the cheery voice of the over bubbly blond Emily burst into the kitchen, ‘And, other guy…’

‘Antonio,’ Mike and Antonio stated in unison, before Mike said a half hearted, ‘Hey Emily. So where did you guys get off to?’

‘Shopping!’ Mike smiled as Mia entered the room, carrying armfuls of paper bags, ‘I’m cooking us dinner tonight!’

Mike’s smile faded.

‘Golden!’ Antonio smiled, stepping to Mia, ‘what cha gonna cook?’

‘Well I-‘

‘No!’ Mike quickly interjected, getting questioning looks from Mia and Antonio, but and understanding glance from Emily. Great, now Emily thinks she understands me, ‘you don’t want to give away the surprise do you?’

‘I guess not…’ Mia whispered, putting the bags on the bench, where the now dead cereal box once was.

Crises, averted. Mike let out his breath, as Antonio got to know the chirpy Texan they call Emily, and the sweet, if a little thick Asian, Mia. Truth was, Mia couldn’t cook, at all. Mike knew she meant well, but no one could break it to her that her food, for lack of a better word, sucked. Poor Antonio. He didn’t know what he was getting into.

‘Mike?’ Emily’s voice pulled Mike out of his daze, ‘What’s up?’

Mike blinked, looking at the short girl in front of him.

‘Nothing. I’m fine, why?’ Mike leaned back against the bench, drumming his fingers.

‘Oh you just looked out of it,’ Emily whispered, leaning on the bench next to Mike, ‘So how about Antonio? Gold ranger sounds pretty cool, eh?’

That sure wasn’t your first impression, was it Mike? Mike cringed, wanting to punch himself.

‘Yeah,’ Mike replied, pushing off the bench, then added quietly, ‘Just another guy for Jayden to favour over me.’

Antonio watched as Mike left the kitchen, his shoulders looking tense. Almost as soon as Mike turned around a corner, two other guys appeared, deep in a serious looking conversation. One, Antonio recognized. Jayden, his sandy haired, red ranger friend since primary school. The other one had dark skin and eyes, with close cropped, tightly curled chocolate hair.

‘Hey Antonio!’ Jayden smiled, walking into the kitchen, riffling through the paper bags on the bench.

Antonio gave a smile to reply, watching as Jayden pulled an apple from his bag and began munching. The other boy offered a hand to Antonio.

‘I’m Kevin,’ the boy smiled when Antonio took his hand and shook, ‘Nice to meet you Antonio.’

Antonio nodded, letting go of Kevin’s hand. The four rangers fell into a comfortable conversation. Antonio sighed, lapsing back into thought, letting everyone else’s words turn into an unintelligible drone. Why did Mike just leave like that? Why did he just storm out? Maybe he just wanted to be alone… maybe he wanted you to follow… OH SHUT UP ANTONIO! Don’t even think that! Mike is not attractive! You don’t like Mike!

‘Antonio did you hear us?’ Jayden asked, blue eyes searching Antonio’s face.

‘Uh no,’ Antonio stuttered, cheeks flushing pink at the fact that everyone was watching him, ‘Was I meant to?’

‘We were going to go train,’ Kevin filled in, ‘Did you want to come?’

‘Sure,’ Antonio nodded, grinning like a fool.

This should be fun.
