Maddi and I had been friends for a long time, since the forth grade to be exact. Strangely enough we were never close enough to hang out until high school. That being said, her grandfather died when she was young and I had never met him. I believe he died before we were friends because otherwise I would have gone to the funeral services in support of Maddi.
It was junior year of high school and like usual we were having a sleepover in the pool house after her bonfire. Many friends came, Savannah, Carley, Sierra, Nick, Taylor and more. These few named were the ones to sleepover with us in the pool house. The pool house was the spot to hang out. Through the first front door one enters into the garage. The garage was filled and mainly used as the storage spot rather than a spot for the cadillac or the jag. Once you make your way through the cluttered mess in the dark, you open the next door which leads to a a small, but decent sized kitchen. The kitchen was equipped with a large refrigerator, an oven, cabinets, island table and an eight person dinner table. Immediately next to the door into the kitchen is a single french door leading into a patio which houses a silent cat. On the wall parallel to entrance door from the garage is another door that opens to a small hallway. On the left wall behind closet doors is a heater, on the right is a washer and dryer with cabinets with random paper, cookie ingredients and other random clutter. Straight ahead is the full bath and immediately right to the bathroom is a door that leads to a large room with a queen sized bed, a vanity, and a tv in front of the bed. A few steps after the bed is a living room like set up with a couch, a love seat, two coffee tables, a center table and a larger tv. It is like a long rectangular room when you walk in. Everything was set so that the bedroom and living room looked as if they were ignoring each other. on the left wall was the beginning of the bed, a coffee table, the larger couch, and then the coffee table. The wall behind next to the door to get in was the vanity with the large mirror. The right side had the bedroom's tv, then the second door that lead to the patio which is always locked, then the next larger tv. And finally at the last wall facing were large french doors covered with curtains that were often tied shut because of no locks on the doors.
Once the bonfire had ended we dropped Nicks truck off at the normal hiding spot and snuck him inside with us girls as we locked every door behind us. Starting from the garage, kitchen, hallway and bedroom door. This was to make sure it was a struggle for anyone to get to us, especially if a family member were to come in unexpected in order to prevent from seeing Nick.
A few of us, including me, had smoked a couple hours ago so we were all coming down and started to fall a sleep. Like normal, Maddi, taylor and I slept on the bed together with taylor in the middle and Maddi sleeping on the side next to the vanity. Nick slept on the tile floor next to the patio door in the bedroom. Savannah slept on the larger couch with Sierra sleeping on the other half and Carley on the love seat.
By the time most of us had been asleep, I was still awake and staring around the room seconds from falling asleep. As I was staring at the patio door next to Nick's head, the door was shaking every couple minutes to seconds.
"it's the cat, I told myself." then I fell asleep.
We had all been asleep for a couple hours and then for a strange reason I woke up and was fully awake and I wasn't sure why I had felt like I had enough energy to run a marathon. It was almost like I had the best sleep in the world. I could not explain the feeling. At the time, I studied ghosts, I was always looking for them, the supernatural has always been a strong interest of mine and ever since I was little I had wished to be a medium. Sometimes I believed I was schizophrenic with how much I let movies get to me. When I woke up, immediately after that awakening feeling I felt like someone was trying to talk to me.
I continued yelling in my thoughts "Leave me alone! Go away I'm with friends, Let me be!" Continually telling the spirit to leave me alone. It felt like numerous voices.
It was like standing in a sea of people at a concert trying to be heard by the musician, but I could only make out one voice that was repeatedly saying to me, "Brooke, turn around, talk to me, wake up, wake up, wake up!" Then I constantly had the words "Maddi's Grandfather" over and over and over again said in my head. No matter how hard I tried to close my eyes I couldn't. I could not listen to music on my IPod, I could lay the opposite way. This was a persistant voice that needed to be heard.
So I finally turned around and thought "What?"
I was never scared, I do not know why I was not. When I turned around I made eye contact with someone I had never met before at the opposite corner foot of the bed. A tall, tall man over six foot tall, heavy set, glasses, a white shirt with some sort of orange shape in the center of it and he just stared back at me. I realized what he wanted. He wanted Nick gone. I thought back, I do too and I knew it was my duty to stop letting Maddi have Nick over. Then he faded as I stared at him and I could not see him ever again. I immediately fell asleep.
Morning finally came around and it was like he planned this. Maddi was up first, I'm not sure how long because I woke up after her. I constantly thought about telling her, but I figured I was crazy. Then it finally came out.
"Maddi, come into the kitchen with me, I have to tell you." we closed the bedroom door and then the hallway door into the kitchen so no one would wake up.
"What is it?"
"So you're going to call me crazy, but go with me on this one. I saw your grandfather last night at the foot of the bed with a white shirt on and an orange shape in the center. He was very tall." I explained the entire night to her telling her how I saw the door shaking and how he wanted Nick out of here.
"Brooke, I watched someone come through the bedroom door and walk to the foot of the bed and disappear. "
"Thats when I began to see him, when he reached the bed. He kept telling me it was your grandfather and he wouldn't leave me alone."
The hallway door opens and Savannah walks through with a surprised look on her face. "Hello." We didn't realize our faces looked shocked when she walked in. She closed the door behind her. She then wanted to know what we were talking about and we were reluctant to tell her.
Then it fell out of my mouth like word vomit. Her Grandfather wanted to make sure we knew he was there and not imagining it. We told Savannah the story and her jaw drops.
"Wait guys, I woke up in the middle of the night and saw this bright light in front of the vanity mirror and I figured it was just someones phone light. "
"I was trying to play my ipod, so maybe it was my ipod light." I said, thinking that was what she saw.
"No, it was a blue light and I got up to check and no ones phone was on and everyone was asleep. It sat over the bed."
It sent chills down our spines and freaked us the hell out. So I finally announceed "Big Poppop!" the name Maddi told me she called her grandfather, " Please leave us alone, we are scared out of our minds! We got your message!" Once I finished talking the hallway door flew wide open on cue baiting us to walk through. We stared at it until finally I had the courage to close the door.
We never told anyone else who was sleeping over for a long time. We told Maddi's mom since it was her father and she explained that the shirt I saw was the one he was buried in or died in. (it's been a long time since this had happened, but the shirt held a large amount of significance because they knew the shirt I was talking about when I explained what I saw.) That's when I knew I had seen my first ghost.
