"Frick, Frick, Frack!" I shout out of bed like a firecracker on the 4th July. I was going to be late for brunch with my mother. My mum hated it whenever I was late for anything. There was no way I could have slept through my alarm clock. The irritating beep beep beep usually wakes me up instantly, but not this time. I clicked the home button on my IPhone 6s that lay on my bedside table. The time read 10:47am. Shit, I was meant to be meeting my mum at 11am. I grumbled and groaned as I forced myself to leave my cosy bed.
My door opened wide open as my roommate, Aurora Myles, strolled in. She was in her usual pyjamas which consisted of a tiny pair of knickers and a tank top. "Oh finally your awake Alyssa," She said in a sarcastic tone.
"Yes I'm awake, and I have 10 minutes to get ready and get to the Cafe down the road, so talking to me isn't helping!" I moaned back at her."Well, well, well, someones on their period aren't they"
"Shut up!"They day was already falling apart and it had only just started.
15 minutes later I ran out the door with an orange face from doing my makeup quickly and my hair only brushed through. I got into the car and turned the radio onto Key103 and turned the volume up load so I couldn't even hear myself think. My eyes glanced over at the clock on the radio screen to see I was already 5 minutes late. I looked up and said a silent prayer in my head asking for no traffic along the way. I looked as good as I could but lets just say no boys will be looking at me today.
I walked into the cafe and prepared myself to be growled at by my mother. "Hello and welcome to Cafe Amour. Do you have a reservation or will you be having a table for one?" This cafe was no ordinary cafe. Usually you just walk in and order then find a spare table but this cafe was very posh meaning you had to make reservations for it to be easy. "No, I am here to meet my mother, actually I see her over there, thank you" I say with a smile on my face to try and make my personality sound good compared to my face of makeup. Before I reach my table, I hear a voice yelling across the room to me, telling me to hurry up and that I was late. The voice was a voice I could recognise anywhere. It was also a voice that made me want to leave instantly.
"Well finally my daughter has arrived, with an orange face?" She said with an angry face on her
"It's nice to see you too mother" I answer
"Well you're late, do you realise how stupid I have looked for the past half hour?"
"No. And why have you been half half an hour?" I say laughing
"Because I wanted to be early to get used to the setting around me" She says as I burst out laughing
"Mum, you eat here nearly everyday, why do you need to get used to it?" With nothing to answer, she asks what I would like to drink.Once our drinks arrived, I drank it almost immediately as I hadn't had time to get anything to eat or drink when I woke up. "So, how are things lately?" My mother asks
"Good, works going great and Aurora and I are actually thinking of starting our own business together" I heard my mother scoff. "I don't know why you bother with that girl. She isn't worth your time. In fact, she is the reason you have no friends or boyfriends"
"Ok, number 1 I have many friends but I don't introduce them to you because you would be the reason I had no friends and number 2, I haven't had time to go out because of work so don't blame everything on Aurora. She has actually helped me boost my confidence and other important skills in life." The rage inside me started to burn up. My mother hated it how I never associated with the daughters and sons I was forced to grow up with. Whenever I think of the night my mother slagged me off behind my back, I didn't want anything to do with her but I thought it was only fair to see her twice a month. "I'm sorry, it was a really bad idea me coming here, I have to go" and with that, I was out the cafe door within seconds without turning round to see my mum. When I reached my car, I heard my phone buzz only to see it was a text from my mother. I decided to ignore it and drive back to my flat.
