Panic

I'd spent the entire morning getting the house prepared. Cleaning, tidying and organising everything ready for Katy's party. She had been so excited all morning and I was struggling to get things done with her running around the house. Michael had decided it was best to get her out and let me have the place to myself. Let her burn of some energy. So he had taken her shopping with the promise of a new outfit for tonight.

Walking into the living room I looked around checking for anything I may have missed and was quite pleased to see that everything seemed to be exactly where It was meant to be. Pulling my phone from my pocket I glanced down shocked at the time. I had been cleaning for hours. Katy and Michael would be home any minute.

I quickly ran into the kitchen looking into the fridge to find something I could make ready for when they arrived. I knew they would be hungry once they got home but to my disadvantage I couldn't find anything. Our parents had left money for us so that we were able to get food. I had asked Michael to grab some shopping while I was at work, as I had been working long hours, but as usual he had forgot. I should have known better than to trust him to get a job done.

Closing the fridge, I turned in disappointment. Just then I heard the quiet sound of my sister's voice. They had arrived just in time. I knew I couldn't argue with Michael. Not when Katy was so excited. I mastered the best fake smile I could and walked through the house to greet them at the door. However, my smile didn't last too long as I realised it wasn't the sound of excitement I had heard, but the sound of my sister crying.

I rushed to open the door as fast as I could and was greeted by Katy. Panic stricken, which surprised me quite a bit. I had never seen her so upset. She grabbed on to my shirt tightly, as though her life depended on it. I stared at her in confusion, shocked at what was happening.

I pulled her inside and knelt down to her level. I needed to calm her down and fast. I didn't have a clue what had got her so worked up but it worried me quite a bit. Just then it hit me. Where was Michael?

I sat with her, trying my best to calm her down but it was impossible. Something had upset her to a point of pure panic. The question was, what was it?

"stay here" I told her. I had to find my brother and hope he could tell me what was going on. What had happened. I stood up and walked to the front door and although I had told her not to follow me, she clung to me, terrified.
