"Don't be afraid to start over.
It's a new chance to rebuild what you want."
Melanie was your typical quiet person. The only time you'd hear her yelling is when she was losing a competitive game of Scrabble with her mother. Other than that, she was a genuinely kind, caring, and quiet person.
Not only was she a quiet person, but she had a hidden talent that only her mother knew of. She could act. Acting was her way of expressing the emotions that she could never get out beforehand - she was eceptionaly great in her talent to the point that she could get away with a few life or death situations with a simple lie. Although when it comes to Melanie, she never lies.
Melanie lived alone with her mother after her father had passed away in a tragic car accident, and to this day she continues to smile and pushes the past away.
All and all, Melanie was happy with her life, and was eceptionaly happy when she got to preform in her school plays. Acting seemed to be the only thing that truly made her smile ten times more than she usually does.
___________________***_________________Melanie set her gray backpack on the kitchen chair and sighed. Exhausted, she checked the calendar on the wall above the dishwasher.
"Just in time..." She muttered to herself. She took a carrot from the fridge and flopped onto the couch. She took a bite from the orange carrot, knowing that her mother would be home any second now.
On cue, her mother walked inside as Melanie took a second bite of her carrot.
"Hello sweetie, did you get the part?" Her mom asked. Just recently, her school was looking for someone to play Dorothy for their school play. Indubitably, Melanie auditioned for the part. Although, luck wasn't on her side this time.
"No, they said I didn't have long enough hair to make braids and they didn't have anymore wigs left. But I did get the good witch part."
"I'm sorry sweetie, at least you got another part!" Her mother walked into the kitchen looking at what to make for dinner.
"I guess, although I would have liked to play Dorothy..."
"You gotta be happy with what you have sweetie! How does Mac and Cheese sound for dinner?"
"Sounds good!"
Her mother set the water on the stove and sat on her chair, waiting for it to boil.
"I have some exciting news Melanie!" Melanie could detect her wide giggly smile before she could even look at her. Whatever her good news was must be something extrodenary.
"What is it?" Melanie finally asked.
"You know that new school that the're building on Chestnut street?" She practically jumped in her seat.
"Yeah, it's supposed to be a big deal what about it?" Melanie was highly confused, so what if the're building a new school. The school she goes to now is much closer.
"I just recently found out that it is not just a high school, but it's a talent school!" Her hands clasped together like a little kid begging for some candy. "This school was designed for only talent people like yourself Melanie!"
Melanie chewed on her carrot. "If what you're asking is if I want to transfer, then my answer is no."
Her mother frowned. "Why not?! This school is perfect for you!"
"I may have a talent for acting, but the people who will go there are insanely more talented then me. Plus, don't I have to audition to get in?"
"Well, yes you do have to audition but you've auditioned for many things in your life!"
"So? That doesn't mean I'm never scared. Besides, how would I even preform my talent?"
"Just......preform a short play! Hand them a script and go from there! That'll prove to them that you have talent!"
Melanie stayed silent for a long time.
".....I don't like this idea mom."
"Please? Just give it a month and if you don't like it then you can transfer back, I promise!" She was practically begging.
"Fine..." Melanie had finally complied while her mother squealed and sang a celebration song while going over to the now boiling water.Melanie sighed and looked at her now stump of a carrot.
'Maybe it'll be a new start..' she thought.
''Maybe this could help me with becoming an aspiring thespian.....maybe this won't be so bad.'She got up and threw away her remains of the carrot and pulled out her homework.
'A new start.....'
