Chapter Two

As I lay there in bed I wait until I know he is asleep. I always know when he is asleep because he snores. I gave nothing away at dinner.  I didn't want him to know I was leaving . Hopefully he won't realise I'm gone until he wakes up in the morning and hopefully I'll be long gone by then. I started packing earlier  anything and everything that I could. Clothes, books, shoes,i even grabbed the cash from my hiding spot. Two grand should do me for a while. I have everything I came here with packed up and ready to go. I slowly sneak down the stairs with my three suitcases and out the door. I head towards my car and hurriedly put everything into the back seat. I look back at the house as I'm about to get into the driver's seat. I flip it off and speed away. I know he will come looking for me. But I know he wont involve the police. He has to much of an ego to do that.  Plus all I would have to do is say he beats me which isn't a lie. I have proof. I head down the highway and blast my music. Something I wasn't allowed to do living there.  I'll wait until I'm a ways away from this town to stop and do anything.  My car has a full tank so I shouldn't have to stop anywhere for a while. I enjoy the ride. It's relaxing and takes me away from home. I couldn't handle being there anymore. I wasn't going to stay there any longer than I had to. The drive to California will take a while but I already decided that that's where I will be going. It's far enough away and it would take him a while to be able to find me there. It's at about three the next day when I arrive in California due to pulling into a motel for a bit to sleep. I didn't wanna stop for to long so I set an alarm for two in the morning to head back out on the road. Looking around I probably could afford two or three nights in a hotel. California is much more expensive than most other states. I pull up to a hotel and book a room. It's on the top floor and it's a suite.Much Better than my room at home. I put my bags in, grab four hundred dollars and my bathing suit and head out for the day. The beach sounds nice today. Time to relax is just what I need. As I get down to the parking lot I pull up my GPS and follow the directions accordingly. Arriving at the beach I decided to lay in the sun for a bit on a towel. I lay there for a while enjoying the sun beat down on me and the breeze blow through my hair and across my skin. I couldn't believe i had finally gotten out of that hellhole. As I'm laying there thinking to myself I suddenly feel cold. I peak open my eyes and realize a man is standing above me. I jump instantly moving away from him.
"Umm..can I help you?" I asked slowly.
"I just wanted to introduce myself.  You look new around here. Thought you may like someone to talk to. I'm Caleb Matson."
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Nova. You scared me a bit. Didnt expect to open my eyes and see someone standing above me."I laughed shyly. He was handsome. Actually scratch that he was gorgeous! Definitely to pretty to be straight. He had dark brown hair cut short and partially spiked, with green eyes that also had a blue ring around the pupils. They were beautiful.
"I didn't mean to scare you. I just didn't wanna stop looking at you." He said confidently.  Wow. Holy shit. Is he hitting on me?
"Well thank you. I'm going to take a dip in the water....wpuld you like to join me?" I began standing up and he offered his hand to help. I grab his hand and immediately felt sparks and tingles shoot up my arm. I yanked my hand away but felt empty when I did. I wanted to touch him.
He gulped and smiled trying to cover it up.
"I would love to join you." He said it so softly I swear I almost missed it. I took off my tank top and my shorts revealing my bikini. It was light green with lace on the chest and the bottoms where black with green lace around the outline.
I heard an audible gasp and turned around to look at Caleb.  His mouth was hanging wide open and I smiled.
"Are you okay?" I asked softly.
"Yeah. I'm okay. Just staring a the perfect scenery in front of me."
"I know isn't it beautiful here?"
"I meant you." He said smiling.
"Oh. I don't think that's the work I would use but thank you." I laughed and turned more towards him forgetting about my bruised up ribs.
I heard a growl and instantly looked at Caleb. Did he just...growl? Nah it couldn't have been him.  Humans definitely don't growl.
"Who did that to you?" He sounded extremely passed off and for a second I thought maybe he was mad at me.
"I fell." I don't know why I lied but I did. I feel like right now the worst person to tell was him and I couldn't figure out why.
"Your lying. What happened?" He asked sadly
"You know what. I just met you.  I don't have to explain anything to you!" I walked off grabbing my stuff on the way to my car. Walking up to my car I put my stuff down and put my tank top back on climbing into the car.
"Hey! Nova! I'm sorry okay? Your right you don't have to explain anything to me  just know that when you want to talk about it I'm here."
"We just met and your talking like you will be around forever."
"Maybe I will be. You never know." He smiled to himself. Possibly some one sided inside joke.
I couldn't help but smile at him and flirt. I've never really flirted before but it's like with him it felt natural. I wasn't allowed to date, talk to any guys or hang out with them living in hell. But now that I'm free. Why not?
"So I was thinking we could go for a run together sometime. Here's my number just in case." He handed me a folded up piece of paper with his name on it.
"Id love to." I took the paper and put it in my wallet.
"I should get going." He smiled.
"Yeah me to. Sorry about running off earlier. I'll call you." I pulled out of the parking lot and headed to the hotel I was staying at. The whole ride nothing was on my mind except one little thing.

Caleb.
