The desert floor was skewed as long lines marked a long path through the sand, soon to be blown away by the wind. Scattered throughout the sand were drips of scarlet as a boy gritted his teeth and fought to stay conscious. Jagged, creepy teeth were stretched grotesquelly in an evil smile as a beastman cackled and grinned down at his prey being dragged through the scorching sand.

“Looks like you puny humans aren’t as much of a threat as I thought.” Viral sneered, coming to a stop by a pile of wood and nails. Simon looked up at him with fire in his eyes, but the fire soon flickered and died out, and his head lolled down as he lost the strength to hold it up any longer. Viral grinned wider and threw him to the side, where he skidded through the sand and rested on his side, breathing heavily. Viral nodded and got to work…

A large sign loomed over the desert, and an ominous message was painted upon it in blood:

Death to all HUMANS. Long live THE SPIRAL KING!

Hanging limp from the sign, held up by his blue jacket on a nail, was Simon, his arm cut and dripping from where Viral sliced it to create his message. He baked in the hot sun, unconscious. He didn’t have long, but he had hope in his heart that his brother would find him and help him enact revenge on Viral and all of his people. ~

As the hours passed, day turned into night, and the wind started blowing fast. The rare small grass patches and leaves were blown to the south, following the current. The stars and the moon were shining brightly, bathing the whole deserted area in a white light, no clouds to make shadow, and not enough trees to obscure the vision, only the many rock formations.

Running fast across the hard ground, a man had his hands wrapped around a fairly big rocket launcher, scanning the area with his eyes. Behind him, a red cape with flame markings was blowing proudly.

“Come on, where are you….I know you’re there, buddy, come on!” Kamina shouted to the desert, gritting his teeth.

Simon hadn’t come back from his scouting run all day; while Kamina had no reason to worry about his soul brother, the communications failed as well. Even with the huge ammount of faith they both shared in each other, that could only mean trouble. The trail Kamina started to follow many hours ago had been blown away by the wind, and now the man was simply running to keep moving forward, to keep looking.~

Bright, yellow eyes almost like a reptile’s glinted from the top of a large rock formation, on top of which the beastman hid and watched fervently with amusement as Kamina searched for his soul brother. “Heh heh heh. Have fun finding your brother dead, puny human. Soon, you’ll be joining him.” He cackled, licking his lips and turning around to see his large ganmen hidden behind the rock formation. “Run, puny human…” Seeing as it was dark, Viral slinked away into his ganmen and returned to his boss, but not without taking one last fleeting glance at his next victim.

Simon stirred weakly in the cool light of the moon, but he was fading fast, and his vision was blurred as he scanned the horizon of the desert for his brother. “Kamina...I’m….sorry.” He whispered, closing his eyes once more.

Lured by the smell of blood, red eyes, reflected by moonlight, crept ever so closer to the hanging boy. Slithering across the sand, a poisonous reptile and its mate circle around the drying and dripping blood from the human, flicking their tongues out in hunger.

About 50 yards in front of Kamina, the planks of wood and some dried blood lie in the sand, a mile or so away from where the actual boy and sign lay. Slightly hard to make out in the light of the moon and the flurries of sand, it may give Kamina some insight to where his brother was taken; however, red, beady eyes lurk here, too.~
