Atomic Bomb

It was a year ago.

That sentence just kept hitting Andy like an atomic bomb. He didn't understand at the time. He's not sure he does now. He knew it was a bad idea to come out to his best friend that day in seventh grade but he never imagined just how bad it was. He didn't think. The girls didn't think either but they've admitted how horrible they feel about it to Andy already.

One year ago this very day he was sitting in science class with his best friend unaware that the next month of his life would be a living hell. Now, he's sitting on a chair in Sonia's porch as she hands him a cup of hot chocolate in an attempt to comfort him.

"How you feeling?" she sits down on the table in front of him cause god forbid she sit on a chair like a normal person for once.

"Well lets see a year ago today my best friend turned on me because I told him I like him as more then a friend which apparently to him was just me giving him permission to make my life a living hell, but yeah, nope, I still like him despite the torture he's put me through," Andy takes a sip of the hot chocolate and relaxes a bit as he feels the light burn of its heat against his throat, "so perfectly peachy."

Sonia sits in silence for a bit trying to look like she's contemplating what to say but Andy is well aware she already has the majority of this conversation mapped out in her head, "You want to watch a movie?"

Okay, Andy wasn't expecting that answer, not to say it wasn't a heavily welcomed distraction, "Sure, what movie?"

"We could watch a musical!"

"Nope, not happening," as Andy said this Sonia's phone went off with that irritating, long vibration that indicates Chys, Emma, or Ollie contacting her. Andy watches as she checks it, her face twisting into her signature look of 'what the hell does this mean and are you trying to make me have a worry induced heart attack', "Sonia?"

She doesn't respond as she quickly switches apps on her phone and starts scrolling and looking. As she continues to expertly navigate her way through what is probably a social media app Andy sees her face contort to an expression that seems to be a perfect mix of rage, worry, and contemplation, with what Andy knows as a perfect dash of 'fuck, gay couples are so cute'.

"Sonia, wha'cha'ya looking at there?" Andy asks as he prepares himself for whatever the hell Sonia may be about to tell him.

"Check Instagram. There's a photo of Cameron kissing Sebastian that's circulating everywhere."

"Wait, what?" Andy immediately grabs his phone and pulls up Instagram and sure enough his feed is completely full of classmates posting pictures of his once best friend kissing another guy. He thought he should probably be feeling anger and betrayal because this is exactly why cam basically just up and left him,  but instead all he is feeling is confusion and heartbreak and jealousy and rejection.

"Andy? You okay?"
