"Gen..." Kitten whined holding her stomach.
"Alright alright! It's almost ready..." Gen sighed and stirred the pot that was perched over the flickering fire than gave her sister a bowl.
Kitten made a happy little sound and ate quietly as Gen poured herself a bowl.
Gen took one spoon full to her mouth and sipped it cautiously. It had been awhile since the sisters had a decent meal and this was a nice treat.
How long has it been since I had a descent meal? A month maybe? Gen thought but soon dismissed it, however long it had been it didn't matter.
The pain of hunger she learned to live with ceased. She than felt tired and her eyes drooped. Kitten however seemed to be alert and have energy of a hyper dog.
Kitten looked over her sister and snuggled into her side in a way that made you want to fall asleep.
But that relief was short lived, in the distance there was a gun shot. Kitten's ears pressed against her head in an attempt to block it out. Gen froze and memories she had carefully hidden came flashing before her eyes.
Her soul in front of her glowing yellow. Her pointing it at the head of the general. Her whispering sorry and the bang. The shocked gasps of the soldiers as they watched their general be killed by a 10 year old.
Her hands clawed the ground as she took deep breaths attempting to calm herself.
"Gen," Kitten gently took her sisters shaking hands, "It's over now."
"A-alright... it's time for bed..."
"What?! No! The sun is still up!"
"Yeah but you wanted to go to that party tomarrow."
Kitten grumbled something under her breath, but went to the run down cabin.
Gen new it was not time for them to go to bed, but she needed a bit of time to herself. She took a deep breath and put out the fire with some dirt.
She grabbed her soup and sipped it quietly as she let her thoughts wander. The small whispers nagged at her thoughts telling her she wasn't strong enough to protect Kit. They would never escape the scientist. Someone will find you out and try to kill you. No one will pity you. You can never live a regular life. You are worth nothing. No one can love bad luck.
Gen paused. Bad luck. She had heard that said before, but where? She searched through her memories, but came up with nothing. It was hard to remember anything before the scientist. Heck it was hard to remember her own name.
She rubbed her temples and looked up at the darkening sky.
"You'll remember one day." she promised herself, but one day seemed to never come.
