Grace's POV:

I don't really remember much of last night. Everything was a blur. I didn't go to the concert.

I know that the killers were arrested. The policemen's plan worked, but I hope that they never try that again with anyone else. My idol could have been killed. That's all I could think about last night after they gave the all clear.

My idol could have just died and it would be all my fault.

I need a release.

I get out of bed and run to the bathroom. I find the razor James had given me and smash it to the floor. I stomp on it, hoping James isn't a light sleeper. As I pull the sleeve of my hoodie up, I glance at all my other scars, some faded, some fresh.

I start at the edge of my wrist and pull the blade across my wrist. I do it five times before I notice that I'm crying.

I wipe away my tears before cleaning up my cuts. I can't risk a shower, that would definitely wake him up. I use the sink instead. I look through the cabinets to find something to wrap my wrist with. I find a bandage and finish cleaning the cuts before applying it.

I walk back the bed, lay down, and close my eyes.

I can't sleep.

I try counting sheep (which we all know never works).

I try everything I can think of.

I grab my phone and open my music. I grab my headphones and put them in my ears.

Only one person can help me sleep, and that's Demi.

Demi's POV:

That little girl never left my mind. During the concert she was all I could think about. I'm so scared for her. She must be terrified.

She didn't act like it though. She was so calm when they told us to get down. When I didn't move, she pulled me down. She must be so freaking strong.

Grace was absolutely beautiful, but it was noticeable that she didn't see it. When I called her beautiful, she smiled even bigger, but she looked at her feet, which shows insecurity.

My parents, Maddie, and Dallas are all here, but I can't focus on what their saying. I really hope Grace is alright.

Grace's POV

"Grace? I need you!" I wake up to James screaming my name.

"Coming!" I yell, my voice cracking from sleep.

"What's up?" I ask, walking into James's kitchen.

"There's someone in the living room who would like to talk to you."

"K. Way to be mysterious."

I walk into the living room. I see Demi sitting on the couch.

'She probably just feels sorry for you.'

'She hates you just like everyone else.'

"Hey babe. It's nice to see you again," she says, standing up to hug me. I flinch away from the hug, but quickly stop myself and hug her back.

"You too Demi. How was the concert?"

"It was good, but it would have been even better if you would have been there. I couldn't stop thinking about you."

"Sorry. I would have come, but you know..."

"Baby girl, it's okay. I wanted to ask you something."

I look up at her, pulling away from the hug.

"Would you be okay with me adopting you? James said you have grandparents and aunts and uncles, but you may want a mom figure and-"

"Demi, shut up for a second. You're rambling. I would love for you to adopt me, but are you sure? It's not like I don't have someone to take of me."

"Baby girl, I'm absolutely positive. I'll let you visit your family and your friends. We just have to convince your new legal guardians, which I assume is your grandparents. Come with me."

"Okay, I've heard most of the conversation by now, and Grace, if you want to leave, go ahead." James says, smiling at me and Demi.

I run and grab my bags from my room. Demi and I go outside where Max is waiting in the car. We put my stuff in, then get in ourselves. Max pulls away after I say bye to James and thank him like five times.

"Hey kid, I'm Demi's bodyguard, Max. I'll be driving you guys back to Mississippi."

"Okay. It's nice to meet you." I say to Max, fighting going back to sleep.

"Hey baby girl, you look exhausted, why don't you take a nap?"

"Okay, Demi. Thanks."

"Thanks for what, baby girl?"

"Thanks for all this, I mean, you're taking care of me even though you don't have to."

"Aww, babe, anything for you," Demi says, grabbing me and pulling me onto her lap.

She puts my head in her lap so I can comfortably go to sleep.

She softly hums a tune I don't recognize until the darkness consumes me.

I wake up and notice that I'm in a car. I look up to see Demi with her head against the window fast asleep. I sit up and get her positioned so she's more comfortable. I lay back down with her, and she pulls me closer to her, so it's like she's hugging me in her sleep.

"Hey, kiddo, help me wake up Demi, we're at the bus," I hear Max say, and I sit up start to shake Demi.

"Demi, wake up. We're at the bus," I say to her.

She opens her eyes and immediately shuts them again. She reaches to the floor and grabs her sunglasses and puts them on. She sits up, picks me up, and then gets out of the car.

"I can walk, Demi," I say.

"I really don't care; I want to carry you. Go back to sleep, we're about to get on the bus."

I nod as I bury my head into her chest and slowly fall back asleep.
