Noah stood up in the corner and walked over to Maggie. His face looked blank and scared. His hands were trembling and his feet were moving slowly.

Maggie hadn’t thought about how she felt. She focused on her hand.  It was shaking drastically. Noah probably thought she was some apparitional wizard. Maggie was so confused herself that she didn’t even know if she was scared, amazed or in shock.

“What just happened?” Noah asked. His face was pale and gazed upon Maggie in utter terror.

“I think it may have something to do with the bracelet.” Maggie said and sat back down in a chair.

“You were holding something else.” He said. “You weren’t just holding the bracelet. Something else was reacting to it.”

“Sam gave me a small emerald colored diamond. The bracelet had an empty slot shaped just like it, so I inserted it, and everything disappeared.” Noah sat down in a chair across from Maggie’s.

“Your brother knows about the bracelet?” Noah asked.

“I assume he did. Why else would he tell us to look in the basket where the bracelet was?”

Noah rested his chin in his hand in deep thought. Maggie leaned back in her chair and started thinking as well. Why would Sam want her to find the bracelet? How did he know about it and what significance did it have? And why did it suddenly disappear like that?

There were so many questions Maggie had. Was Sam everything she thought he was, or was he more? Was he some magical creature or wizard, as well as a 19 year old amazing soccer player and great best friend? Or was he just full of lies? Just when you think you know your own brother, everything changes too fast.

While Maggie was thinking these things, a small creature floated in through the window. It sat on the sill and crossed its tiny legs. Not long after had another one came in and repeated the same action. They were people, yet they weren’t. They looked to be about the size of a butterfly, but had no wings. Just floating, miniature girls. They were both a bright shade of orange, both their skin and clothes. One had their hair tied up in a ponytail, while the other’s hung long and wavy. The hair too was orange.

Maggie had no idea who or what they could be. She stood up from her chair, pushing it aside and started walking towards where the two critters were.

Noah picked his head off the table. “Where are you going?” Maggie stopped and looked into Noah’s amber eyes.

“Do you not see those weird things over there?” She pointed over to the window sill and looked over to see if they were still there. The small creatures looked offended by this and turned around. The strange thing was that they had changed from a happy orange to a bright tomato red.

“You’ve never seen a bird before?” He replied.

“Birds?” Maggie was so confused. First the bracelet and now this? How could he possibly think they were birds! They looked like tiny people!

The creatures looked at Maggie and started making teasing faces at her. And instead of red they were now a bright yellow, shimmering like a topaz.

Noah stood up. “I think you should go get some rest.” He went over to the wooden door that led out of the tree house and held it open.

Maggie sighed and walked over to where he stood. Maybe she was just hallucinating. Maybe, in all her grief and sadness about Sam’s death and his note, she was making things up in her mind to give her something else to worry about.

But as Maggie and Noah were about to leave, Maggie quickly remembered about Sam’s note that she had left on the table, and went over to pick it up.

Suddenly, the two wingless fairies that had been sitting on the sill looked up and glared at Maggie with shock and jealousy. They both turned a violent shade of purple, jumped off the window sill and flew inside the tree house. One grabbed a handful of Maggie’s hair and yanked it, pulling Maggie up in the air at the same time.

Noah ran over and grabbed Maggie’s waist, attempting to pull Maggie away from the fairies grasp. But the creature just turned red and pulled Maggie even higher, almost bringing Noah up with them.

While the two were struggling with the fairy, The second one that had been sitting on the sill flew over to the table and hovered over top of the note.

“NO!” Shrieked Maggie as the fairy made sparks appear out of nowhere. A small, orange fire engulfed the note and in 2 seconds, the fire, fairies and the note were gone, with Noah and Maggie left thrown on the floor, sitting dumbstruck about what had just happened.
