Thud. I banged my head against the steering wheel again. Thud. Why did I do that? She's probably scared of me now. Thud. She probably won't come to the party on Friday night. Thud.
"Dammit." I muttered, starting up the car with a sigh. My house was only a short drive from here.
I pulled into the driveway of my modern, three story house that I had—all to myself. After my parents died, they passed their company down to me. I sold it and got fifty million dollars. So I moved here. I parked the car and stepped out, walked up to the front door. I opened it and plopped down on the couch. I sighed, rubbing my face. I headed upstairs, stripping on my way. I tossed my dress over the railing, continuing in my underwear and stilettos. I kicked off my heels, leaving them on the bed. I slid out of my underwear and hung it on the door handle. Slumping into the bathroom, I started a bath. Pouring in rose and vanilla scented bath soap, I slid into the steamy bath and relaxed against the side.
I squeezed body wash onto a sponge and dipped it in the water. Closing my eyes, I began washing my body. I imagined it was Katie, her small, innocent hands running all over my body. I felt myself relax as I imagined her beauty. I drifted off into a deep sleep.

When I awoke, the bath water was cold, and it was the next day. Friday. I would see Katie today. I slipped out of the tub and searched through my dresser and closet. Long black cocktail dress? No! Short, blue, v-neck? No! Pink, lacy, and tight? No again! No, no, no,
No! None of it was good enough for Katie. I ran a hair through my frazzled hair and slid into a pair of jeans and a white tank top.I drove to the mall and found the most expensive dress shop there. All day I searched and searched, until I finally found it. It was beautiful. It was pure white, and flowing from my wait to my feet. A slit was cut up the side of the left leg. Lacy floral patterns stretched across the chest and around covering the back. I quickly bought it and stuffed it in a bag. I took it home and changed into it. I slipped on a white lacy lingerie pair under it and some white stilettos. I curled my hair and braided it around my head, leaving it in a bun on top. I left a few pieces out to frame my face, then threw on some bright red lip stick and some mascara.
I finished setting out the last plate of food when the doorbell rang. I turned and my breath hitched in my throat. It was Katie. I bit my lip.
What if I wasn't good enough for her? What if she thought I was ugly? Could I just not answer the door? I chewed my lip nervously but finally took a step towards the door. I plastered a confident smile on my face and opened the door. I saw her gasp as I opened the door and revealed myself. She was wearing a short, red, fit and flare dress with a low cut v-neck that was making me hot and bothered. I quickly stepped aside and she smiled nervously. As soon as she stepped inside, I wrapped my arm around her waist and pressed her body to mine.
"You look absolutely stunning." I murmured in her ear. I felt her shiver in my arms and smiled at the effect I had on her. I caught her mouth in a passionate kiss, pulling away just as the doorbell rang again. I pulled open the door and started to smile but stopped. A young man I had never seen before stood at the door. He smiled at and stepped inside.
"I'm Nick. I'm Katie's boyfriend. She invited me along." He held out his hand. I made no move to shake his hand and glared at him coldly.
"Nice to meet you." I said through clenched teeth. There was something about him that I didn't like. I left the door open for the other guests and turned on my heel. I ground my teeth together as I took a small bite of cake. Nick didn't deserve Katie. She's too perfect for him. I slammed my fork down on the counter as the other guests milled around, talking and drinking champagne. I glanced around, trying to find Katie. I finally spotted her in a conversation with an old man. She laughing and waving her arms. Watching her, my heart softened. She was so cute. I glanced around again to see if I could find Nick, but he was nowhere to be found. Finally. He'd been stuck to Katie like glue the whole night.
I moved over to Katie. I took her hand and smiled at the man she was talking to. He smiled back and then went to get food. I turned to Katie.
"Can I show you around?" I asked softly. She nodded. As we walked to the stairs, I talked to her.
"What's your favorite color? Do you have any hobbies?" I asked her.
"Well...I like white because you can make it into anything. I think it's my favorite." She said. "And I like to read." She added. I smiled.
"Cmon. I have the perfect thing to show you." I said. I hurried up the stairs, with her close on my heels. I headed to the huge oak double doors at the end of the hall. I slowly pushed open the doors to reveal my library. Hundreds of towering shelves filled with books. I heard Katie gasp behind me. She ran past me and stared up at the books in awe. Hand in hand, we wandered down aisle after aisle of books. We talked, and it was nice. Finally, we stepped into a small space in the center of the library with a few chairs. I gasped. In one of the chairs sat Nick.
Making out with another girl. She was straddling him, and his hands were up her shirt. I heard a gasp from behind me.
"Nick?" Katie's broken sob came from behind me. The girl jumped off him with a squeak. She glanced quickly between Nick and Katie, then ran off. Nick sheepishly tried to wipe the lip stick stains off his face with little success.
"Uh, yeah?" He asked. He glanced at me and a dark look came over his face. "Hey. You. You've been hanging around Katie all night. You trying to make a move or something? Back off, dyke. That's my girlfriend right—"
"Shut up!" Katie screamed. Nick froze. "You—you cheated on me. We've been together for three years! How could you?" She screamed. He shook his head.
"No, you got it all wrong. She tried to kiss me. I love you, baby." He reached out to her, but she held up her hand.
"Don't." She whispered. "Just...don't." She turned and slumped away. I turned to Nick with fire in my eyes. I stepped forward, brought my hand back, and slapped him across the face.
"How fucking dare you." I whisper. He opened his mouth to protest but I slapped him again. "Get out." He clenched his jaw. Then he turned and stalked out of the library. I watched him slam the front door and drive away from the upstairs window. Then I slowly left the library and followed the sounds of sobbing to my bedroom. Katie was curled up on my bed, her mascara dripping all over the sheets. I lifted her up and sat her on the edge of the bed. I slowly unzipped her dress and ran my hands softly across her almost back. I unhooked her bra, and without looking, slipped her into one of my larger t-shirts. I slipped her heels off and put one of my pairs of sweatpants on her. I took a makeup wipe and slowly wiped off her makeup. Then I changed the sheets of the bed and slipped in with her. Spooning her against me, I kissed her shoulder and murmured sweet nothings in her ear until she fell asleep. Then I drifted off along side her.
