Chapter 8

Kathryn's Pov

It was early in the morning as I walked to work, no one should be in at this time, the door was right in my sights and I placed my hand on the knob. I twisted it and it was surprisingly open. I pushed the door open a little, I walked in even more paranoid because there was someone here. "Hello?" I called out and walked towards where a light was shining, which was an office I hadn't been in before. I flicked the light in the hallway on to get a better view of things around me. I walked into the room without knocking, which is something I don't normally do. "Signe? Why are you here so early?" She jumped up and screamed. "Kathryn, didn't hear you come in." She looked around the room, trying to see if there are any more people in. "Yeah, I didn't think there would be anyone here," I could tell she was trying to change the subject. "You didn't answer my question, why are you here this early?" I asked again. "W-Well, since I'm new here I thought I'd get used to my office and the technology you guys have here," I took this into consideration but I felt like she was hiding something from me. "Why are you here then? Since you seemed so interested in me being here." I knew the question was going to come, but I hadn't quite came up with an excuse for me being here but I had to make one off the top of my head. "I'm Jack's caretaker so I kinda have to be here to feed him." I laughed and started to back out.

I turned back around as I had an idea, should I tell her what I'm going to do? I haven't known her for long, not even a day. I had an argument in my head about it, but I had to tell her or she would call Malcom or someone else then we would have no chance of saving them. "Hey Signe," she turned to face me. "I wasn't entirely honest with what I'm going to do, you know the test subject Jack and Mark," she nodded and I continued. "We're going to break them outta here, me and Amy are. Do you want to help us?" She looked shocked and unsure and opened her mouth to answer. "Why would you want to break them out of here? Is there something going on that I'm not aware of?" I laughed and nodded. "There is a lot going on that you don't know."

After explaining everything, I got her on my side and we went to mark's room first, since he would be the easiest to transport since he hasn't fully transformed yet. "Here's his room." We opened the door.

Mark's Pov

I heard my door open and I tried to sit up to see who it was, I was assuming it was Amy coming to give me my breakfast, but it seemed to early for that. They walked in and turned the light on, I squinted my eyes at the light. "This is some wake up call." I groaned. They ran over and I waited for food. "Hey Mark, we're here to get you out of this place." I jumped up and nearly broke the restraints. "Really? Can I see Jack now?" I said as they started to take off my restraints and my arms were free. They started on the ones on my legs, I looked down in shock at what was happening to them. They were basically fully red and it looked like they were morphing together or some crazy shit like that. "What the fuck were you guys doing to me!" I yelled trying to stand but failing miserably, only to be caught by the two females. "I know it looks bad, this is why we're getting you guys outta here." The doctor I knew as Kathryn spoke. There was another doctor with her that I didn't recognise. "I'm sorry, but who are you?" I asked pointing to the other doctor. "Sorry, my name's Signe, I'm the new doctor here." She introduced herself. "Well we should get moving a little faster before we are actually supposed to be here for work." Kathryn said picking up the pace, with me flopping behind them in an attempt to move.

After a long period of time passed, my legs or leg I guess was getting really tired. "Guys I don't think I can go much longer standing up." I said getting a little tired. "Ok, take him to the car Signe, I'll go get Jack." Kathryn said, as I was taken to the car by Signe. When we got to the car Signe put me in the back and stuck some sort of needle in me. My eyes started closing and I fell asleep.

Jack's Pov

I was sleeping peacefully for the first time in forever, when my door to the room opened. I shot up of my sleep, they're not normally this early. "Who's there!" I yelled, slightly shaking in fear. "Jack, it's just me Kathryn." Kathryn said and came over to the tank. "What are you doing here this early." I asked tiredly "I'm here to get you out of here." She walked forward and grabbed onto the tank and started to move it out the room. She took me to the transportation room and I started to climb out my tank and quickly into the transportation one.

She wheeled me out of the room but stopped suddenly. "Kathryn? Why'd you stop?" I asked loudly, getting her attention. "Shh, I heard a door open." She pushed me into a nearby room. "Signe? Is that you?" I heard her call out. "No, it's me Malcom." That monster replied back. "Oh hi Malcom, didn't know you would be here." I froze not moving an inch. "I'm the boss, of course I'll be here." I heard them walk past me in the room and Kathryn looked at me scared. He wasn't supposed to be this early. "I just mean it's really early shouldn't you still be at home?" Kathryn started to convince him that he wasn't supposed to be here.

"Kathryn," he spoke lowly. "Are you hiding something from me?"
