"Don't turn around"
Rain crashed furiously against the floor, splashing against my clinging drenched clothes. The world was a blurr, drowned out in thundering rain. Lightening sparked in the far distance, silhouetting the trees array. I didn't look, I wouldn't look. Not now. Not til we were safe. One fault, one mistake and we're all gone. I stifled my fears and looked ahead of me, past the other 4 figures and towards Kye. His clothes too were drenched and wrecked, clinging tightly across his strong built chest. Black hair drooped down under the pressure, delicately framing the nape of his neck. His panting was course, and harsh as he tried to hide it beneath his demenour. Yet, the shadows beneath his eyes gave it all away. But we didn't want to see that.
Quickly he swiped away the branches of autumn leaves, sending them scattering along the path. At some point this would have been pretty. At a different time, on a different day. Maybe in the distant future. We pounded forward blindly, never second glancing a thing. The crunching of leaves echoed with abundance beneath our feet. "We're making too much noise" Kye's urgent hiss broke our trance. Shit. Sparing a glance behind me, I glimpsed the flickering of the torch light. They're there. "They've got us. Run!"
With that we clicked into action. Keeping our minds sharp and alert, we sprant, taking unrecognisable turns and branches to our faces and legs. It didn't matter how we went about this anymore. No more sneaking around like mice in the back attic. We kept our eyes on Kye and the signals. He knows the way around...well, at least better then the rest of us.
As we went they came too. Trailing behind us without a fault. We weren't making any progress. On the other hand neither were they, which was something I was thankful for. But that was short lived, as the cocking of a gun rung in my ears. We're not going to make it. Wherever 'it' was. We should have thought it through more clearly before darting out those iron gates.
Those guards never had much patience, did they? On the other hand you probably didn't need such skills when you're the one holding the guns.
