Chapter 3:

Elizabeth POV

At the cheerleading tryouts on Thursday, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the team was actually a pretty competitive team. I had to do multiple back-flips, handstands, and cartwheels to be considered above the other girls that were trying out.  These girls were in really good shape and clearly worked out and pushed themselves.  This wasn't just a bunch of girls doing some dance routines and shaking pompoms.  Luckily, I still made the cut, most likely because I can do some wicked back-flips, which I know impressed the girls.

In the locker room after the tryouts, a bunch of girls congratulated me. Julie came up to me and told me that all the girls were invited to a party at Kyle's beach house this weekend and that I should come out to celebrate.  I told her I would think about it.

As I was pulling my shirt off, I noticed Jordana glancing over at me.  I wondered if she was checking me out, or if she was just noticing the very obvious spray tan that I had gotten.  Just in case it was the former, I made sure to hang out in my lacy underwear for a little while longer before putting the rest of my clothing back on.  The next time I looked at her, I was disappointed to see she had turned her back to me and was packing up her bag to go.

I didn't want her to go just yet.  "Hey, Jordana, are you going to Kyle's party this weekend?"

She looked caught off guard when I asked her.  "Yeah, probably, why?"

"I was just wondering if I could head over with you. There aren't really a lot of cheerleaders in my classes, so I really only know you and Julie. I was hoping I could join you and maybe we could help each other get ready." I held my breath, nervously awaiting her reply.

Julie must have overheard my request, and jumped in excitedly.  "That's a great idea! Let's all get ready together before the party.  I want to look as good as I can for that gorgeous brother of yours, and I want to know as much about him as possible.  Let's all meet at my place at 5:00 on Saturday, since the party starts at 7:00."

I rolled my eyes at the comment.  No wonder she was being so nice to me, she was after my brother. I was disappointed that Julie had been the one to accept my invitation and not Jordana, but at least my offer was accepted.

"Okay, that sounds good.  I'll plan on seeing you guys then."  I then headed out the locker-room door with a smile on my face."

I hummed as I pulled my black BMW into the drive way of my family's large Victorian styled home. It was undoubtedly one of the largest homes in our school district, if not the largest with a four-car garage and a large front porch that wrapped around the entire front of the house. We vampires are still suckers for anything Victorian styled. There was something sweeter about a life where we were vulnerable and any moment could be our last, and so we cherished anything that reminded us of those more sacred moments.

As I pulled into the garage I was happy to see Nathan wasn't home yet. I was surprised to see that both of my 'parents' were home. Most of the time they were off traveling. My 'father', Donovan or Don Porter, who was my really my maker, was a head of the Northeastern District of Vampires, which required him to constantly have to go deal with problematic vampires in our district. I know the job irritated him a lot, but I knew that he loved the power and the prominence of the position.

There were only 6 districts in the United States. Smaller countries and less vampire populated countries only had one district director, but bigger countries or more vampire-populated countries had to be divided into more manageable districts. When the districts were first divided up, it was more like gang or mafia territories being fought over, but in the last two decades, a board of twelve directors of some of the most powerful vampires had been created to ensure peace between the vampire territories.
