It's not like that.

I look up from my laptop screen, the only light in the darkening room. A delicate sigh escapes Charlotte's lips as she reaches underneath her t-shirt and unhooks her bra strap. We lock eyes for the first time since the party. Only briefly though, as I feel my anaemic cheeks glow bright pink and hurriedly look back down at my screen. I hear her sigh agitatedly and stand up, walking toward the kitchen. Logical thinking a distant memory, I grab her wrist as she strides past. She glares at me, a cocktail of love and anger burning in her glistening eyes as she yanks me out of my seat. I flinch as my laptop collides with the carpeted floor, though my focus is quickly diverted to the soft kiss she has delicately planted on my neck. We make eye contact once again, and I understand. She's hurting, conflicted. She's fighting herself and so am I.

"Rose" she mumbles, focusing her gaze on a candle to avoid having to look at me any longer. I can tell she's nervous, fingering the sleeve of my jumper while my hand is still wrapped around her wrist. "We can't live like this forever."
I nod, too scared to speak. This is delicate. One word out of place and this tender exchange will turn into another fight. One particularly bad bruise on my shoulder stings at the thought.

I stay completely silent as she cautiously leads me to her bedroom. I sit next to her, staring down at my feet. I find myself trembling. until now I never knew it was possible to be so terrified of someone whilst also being completely obsessed with them.

"Do you think about it too?" she asked, without needing to specify. I knew she was referring to what happened that night at the party.
"Of course" I whisper nervously, grateful for the long, dark hair that shields my face from her.
"We could do that again."
I look up at her. I have to. A slightly sadistic giggle echoes around the room. Is she for real?
"I'm serious." Charlotte persists, as if reading my mind. My head snaps around, so I'm looking away from her.

My vision clouds as she suddenly pushes me onto my back, pinning my hands above my head.
"Purr for me again Ro. I beg you."
