By the way, I’m Calvin Ortega. I live in the same orphanage as Marie and the same as old as her. I stayed here since the day I survived in a car accident and Ms. Shirin told me that it’s the same reason why my parents died. My mom only had enough strength to carry me to the shelter house and then passed away after several minutes. Ms. Shirin was the one who gave me my name and I’m proud of it.

She’s been a mother to me just like everyone else here. Well, I think that’s enough for my past... Hmmmhhh? Going back to what I’m saying, I used to be the one giving Marie her meal, helping her sweep and mop the floor, do the laundry whenever she’s assigned, her partner in making every activity in class and watching her every hour of the day and she doesn’t even know it. More than anyone, I’m the one who knows her. Well, I’m not a stalker or something. I just know that she’s special and I feel like something’s in her which keeps on pulling me the moment I first saw her.

It’s like asking my own self the questions why was she covered with blood? What happened to her parents? What do they look like? Are they still alive? Why can’t she speak? Is she mute? But that’s certainly impossible because we heard her voice once. Maybe she’s deaf that’s why she cannot talk to anyone. But, is she ill? How does she look like when smiles? What’s the sound of her voice? Oh well, I’m sincerely regretful that I forgot how angelic her voice was though it has a hint of full agony. Furthermore, I want to know her... I mean, fully know her...

“Calvin, will you play with us? I bet Andrei wanted to beat you because of our last game. You should’ve seen his face back then. Hahahaha. He’s utterly a crybaby!” Ken surely enjoyed defeating Andrei in chess. Well, I cannot take that joy from him... Honestly, it’s his fault why Ken lost his dream of being awarded as the chess genius in the whole district without prior noticing of his tricks and cheating techniques.

“I’m sure he no longer wants to fight me because of you Mr. Coward. hehehe” (sigh)

“You know I’m not a coward!”

“Really? Then why do you always bring me in front whenever Andrei challenges our team for a tournament?”

“Of course it’s all for you. You’re my bestfriend so I know what you’re capable of and also, I don’t want him to reign and boast when there’s still someone who can drag his feet on the ground.”

“Oh well, I’ll let that pass for now but I still have to do something. Wait for me or maybe not... (wink) if you want to... =) I bet you can win even without me as your partner.” Well, it’s already pass one in the afternoon. I still have to check on Marie first before attending their childish game.

“I’ll wait in the library. Be there or else I’ll tell everyone about your pretty little secret!” He bid me goodbye after threatening me. Gggrrrrr...

That nasty asshole... speaking of my secret, yes... I do like Marie...hhaaayyyzzzz... but of course, she doesn’t know about it. Many of our teachers and staffs here knew but I think she doesn’t even notice it. In fact, I don’t think I exist in her world. How pathetic (sigh). By the way, where’s she?

I’m now walking to our room and I know Ms. Therese won’t have a lecture because of our unfinished activity the previous week. She asked us to have our partner and perform a simple act regarding some of our traditions. Of course, you know already my partner. The thing is... we are assigned to do the topic “courtship”.

How in the hell would we perform it? She doesn’t talk to me even for once. Also, I know nothing about courting a girl. Oh, let me rephrase it... How am I supposed to court a girl who cannot speak to me at all! I know it’s just a play but it’s still apprehensive. Ugh! Before I lost track of myself because of that stupid play, I should see Marie first. Where is that silent girl?
