In European literature of the several centuries Ragnar's death he was surrounded by a considerable legend.  Now I found a good source of information.  He was a danish king and he had fought the holy Roman emperor.  Ragnar was eventually caught by the Anglo Saxon king Aella of Northumbria and thrown in a snake pit to die.  That was hard to find but I hope you enjoyed.
