The Boy On The Bus

It's Thursday after school and I have to take the bus. Just great -.- . I adjust the straps to my backpack while waiting for the bus to arrive. There isn't really anyone else around me except this one guy who seems to be around my age. He looks familiar but I can't seem to remember his name. Maybe I've just seen him around the hallways of the school. It's kinda hard not to bump into someone. The bus arrives and I board onto it, paying for the ride before finding an empty seat. Looking around, I notice an empty seat by a window and I go sit down there. After sitting down, I take out my earbuds and start listening to music. Halfway through listening to my favourite song, the boy from before sits next to me. He must have noticed the awkward feeling in the air so he started talking.

"Every guy has imagined what their dream girl would look like. But when they get to see them in real life, they feel like everything is just a fantasy story." His voice didn't seem to fit him. His face was cute and sweet while his voice was deep and slightly rough. Maybe it's because he has a sore throat or something.

Trying to be polite, I turn off my music and take out my earbuds. I then look at the boy while he continues to speak. " She looks a lot like you. She has long chestnut coloured hair with natural highlights and her eyes are a mesmerizing shade of blue. She almost always has her hair up in a ponytail or a bun 'cause she's too lazy to put her hair up before gym class. Her face is very different from other girls. It's a cute egg shape that makes her look like a baby - in a good way."

As he was describing what his dream girl looked like, I become disturbed because he seemed to be describing me. I shrug off the thought thinking that he's talking about another girl. Maybe she is my doppelgänger.

The boy then continued. "She even has a name. Do you want to know it?"

"Sure." I answered. Trying to be nice.

"Her name is Jewel. Beautiful isn't it?" Once he said the girl's name I froze. How does he know my name? I shrugged off the thought once again and replied.

"It's very beautiful."

"The only thing is that even though I met her, she doesn't remember me. We used to be very close friends when we were younger but she had to move away, causing us to lose contact.  It bursts me that even though I'm sitting right beside her, she's thinking I'm some sort of creep." They boy then lightly chuckles. "I guess the way I approached her was a little odd." Once he finished speaking the bus stops and he stands up. "I guess I'll see you around Jewel."

Before I could say anything, He had already gotten off of the bus. It was still going to take me another ten minutes before I'd reach the bus stop by my house so I just put my earbuds back on and listened to music.

Ten minutes pass by and I am walking to my house. When I entered, I decided to look at the many photo albums that my parents created.

After hours of looking and silly memories, I find a picture of me when I was 7 with a boy about the same age as me at the time. I looked at the caption below the picture and it read:

Jewel and Jae. 3 years before moving away.

After staring at the pictures of Jae and I for what seemed like hours, I slowly came to realize who the boy on the bus was. He was my only friend when I was younger. I feel so guilty that I forgot about him.

I hope he'll forgive me.
