Coach Finstock gave his usual cheesy and quite humorous speech — which came from Independence Day, which was a favorite movie of his — before the game. Gerard had been there too, he still stood balding, and mischievous. Stiles and Scott shot each other looks of confusion as he slowly came forward to talk. As he spoke, chills ran down Stiles and Melissa's back making them tense up with fright and worriedness, Scott didn't have the tension and chills they had, he was more confused and spiteful at the words Gerard had spoke. It was something about having to play with only one co-captain and to kill the other team. And with those last words he shot Scott a nasty grin. Scott stared back not bothered by his inscrutable grin, but instead he was bothered by what was enigmatic behind it. He turned to look at his worried mother and then to Stiles. Stiles, mouth slightly parted, looked more confused then he was.
"Alright everybody get your asses out there". Coach boomed after blowing his whistle.
Scott ran to coach as Stiles and his mother trailed out of the locker room.
"Uh coach?" Scott panted.
"McCall?" Coach answered a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"Your benching me?" Scott asked.
"Yes". Coach answered trying to avoid eye contact.
He knew that it was no chance they were going to win without Scott and he couldn't look him directly in the eyes because he would cave in and let him play. But he couldn't not according to Gerard who, as much as he 'proclaimed' that he wanted them to win, pulled Scott out of the game due to his academics.
"Coach?" Scott asked.
"McCall your failing three classes, academics come first". Coach told him.
"But coach you have to let me play". Scott said a little to close.
"Sorry but not tonight McCall". He said, "tonight your on the bench". He breathed as he walked away.
"Great". Scott muttered rubbing his face.
This was just perfect, Gerard was planning a mass kill and he wasn't going to be able to do a damn thing about it if he couldn't get on the field and stop Jackson, the Kanima, from doing what Gerard told him to do. He huffed as he dragged out on to the bench.
"You seen Allison?" Scott asked as he sat next to Stiles.
"No, you seen Lydia?" Stiles said.
"Not yet". Scott told him.
"Do you know what's going on?" Stiles asked as he twirled his lacrosse stick.
"Not yet". Scott admitted shaking his head.
"Ugh it's going to be bad, isn't it? I mean, you know, like people screaming, running for their lives, blood, killing, maiming kind of bad?" Stiles asked his neck hairs rising.
"Looks like it". Scott said.
They didn't say nothing for almost a minute until Stiles cleared his throat looking up at Scott who looked lost in his thoughts.
"To be honest with you Scott, the other night seeing my dad get hit over the head by Matt, you know, while I'm just lying there and I can't even move, it just–I want to help, you know, but I can't do the things that you can do. I can't—
