" Happy birthday to Melodyyy , Happy birthday tooo youuuu !"Yanelis , Marco, and my mother sung out to Melody as she clapped her hands and showed the teeth that she barely grew
Melody placed her small hands on the glass window as my mother did the same
Noticing a tear coming from my mother's eyes , I quickly looked away so that I wouldn't shed any tears
" Shantrese I'm sorry I let you down " my mother spoke to me
This time she could only hear me because I had the phone
" I didn't mean for none of this to end up like this, please watch over your siblings " she begged like always
" Ma I always do " I mumbled whipping my nose as I watched Melody take a hand full of cake and put it into her mouth
" Since 17 huh ? 19 right ?" She questioned trying to guess my age
" Yea " I mumbled again , she was wrong I'm 20 , at least she was close
" Ugh this place has me going insane, I'm going to be home soon okay ?" My mother said looking around
A bursted into tears because the judge told my mother she was staying in for the rest of her life and it's sad that she thinks she getting out soon
"Okay mama " I cried even harder
" Well tell ya brother and sisters I love them, I love you too Shantrese " she said as the guard came to pick her up and take her back to her cell
We made our way out of the county jail and got into my Range Rover
" It's crazy how things are now " Yanelis mumbled as we rode down the road
" Yea .. I still can't believe ma did it, I wish things could get better even though they are, I just wish we had a better child hood you know ? Things wouldn't been like this if dad didn't struggle with his bipolar depression
We drove pass the grave site and got out
Walking up to the headstone , I looked at it for a couple of minutes before making my way back to the car leaving Sap to let his tears out , no matter how mamy times he hurt our mother , Sap still loved his father , wasn't nothing wrong with him loving his but I just didn't , neither did Yanelis , Melody ain't know shit Bout em and I rather keep it that way, at this point I'm the only father figure that Melody has ever had , call me selfish but I don't care
" Mama " Melody called out
" Yes baby " Yanelis said handing her a chicken nugget from the Wendy's bag
"home ??"Melody asked
"Yes we're going home, its way pass your bedtime girl "she laughed
Yanelis has literally been taking care of Melody since birth so Melody got so used to calling her mommy
I didn't have no problem with it at all , I didn't have time for Melody to be confused as to who her mother is knowing that her mother can't even step foot off that jail property for the rest of her life
" Yanelis I have to go to work tonight , you know what to do " I said as we pulled up into the drive way
" Sap you okay ?" I questioned
