Chapter 2:

I groaned loudly as a bright light flooded my eyes when they opened the next morning. Half expecting to have found Matthew, erm... Matt, next to me, I was surprised to find that his spot was clearly unoccupied. The sheets were empty on the side he had slept on as if he had just evaporated into thin air. I touched the spot where he had been and noticed that it was still warm, meaning he hadn't left for very long. There were two options floating in my mind: Go out the door and explore or stay in his room until he returns. In the end, I decided to explore his home after sneaking around his room.

His room was neat. A bookshelf was propped up against the wall across from the bed where the window was located. I was guessing he was studious probably with straight A's and all honors classes just like me. Wait, was he in any of my classes?! My eyes wandered over to his desk where a stack of papers and manilla folders were lying down on it. The words, "English II Honors", "AP Creature Geography", and "Pre-Calculus" caught my attention. Matt had three of my classes?! I picked up a letter that sat on his desk with a symbol on it. I read the title and furrowed my eyebrows; Withering Heights University.

I gasped at the possibility of Matt being a senior just like Marco. He might know him! What if he tries to hurt him because of my pitiful story last night? Or maybe they're friends and he'll hurt me? I would never be able to live that down. My breaths were coming out faster and raspier as I began to hyperventilate at the mere thought of it all. Then I continued reading the paper and my pathetic episode stopped altogether. It was just a letter of recommendation to attend the school when he does graduate. It even states possible scholarships or a full-ride if he does end up going there.

WHU was one of the most prestige colleges offered in the mythical world for those interested in being a part of the new system they're developing to manage crime and injustices within it. It's located far from here, all the way across the country in California. If he were to leave I think I'd be devastated knowing that the only friend I currently have will soon leave my life. I shook my head. I've just met the guy. Why am I allowing him to get to my emotions this quickly? Suddenly, I was very angry with myself for acting so careless. I shouldn't have kissed him, that was mistake number one. Mistake number two was falling asleep in the same bed as him.

My lips pursed at my lame actions and made my way toward the door to find it open with a grinning Matt standing there in only a pair of basketball shorts. I averted my eyes from his bare chest and met his eyes before I started drooling at the sight of his beautiful chest. "Good morning." He cooed. "I made you breakfast." I blushed at this.

"Erm... You shouldn't have..." My foot twisted itself into the floor as my hands played with the ends of my shirt awkwardly.

"It was my pleasure." Matt flashed me a bright smile, grabbing my hand in his and pulling me out the door, down some stairs into a green kitchen. "Sit." He motioned toward the island area at the center pulling out a stool for me. I nodded in acknowledgement and reluctantly sat on it.

A plate of steaming bacon sat in front of me. I almost gagged at the smell, my stomach feeling weak at the sight of food. "I... I can't..." My gaze dropped to my lap avoiding Matt's disappointed gaze.

"You have to eat something, Karia." A hand fell on my shoulder. I looked up to find Matt staring straight into my eyes. He leaned forward. I froze. Oh no! I turned away and made him kiss my cheek instead of my lips. I could feel his confused expressions. My stomach churned at the fact that I might have hurt the poor guy's feelings, but seriously? I didn't want to kiss him again because I just met the guy. He could be a rapist! I doubt it, but STILL! The first kiss was just all my crazy emotions taking over. I sighed, picking up the metal fork and stabbing a pancake.
