"I can smell it! I think we need to evacuate!" Gabriella shouted across the lawn to her darling mother Bessie. "I'm sure you are just panicking and over reacting dear. Just because the gentleman on the radio said there may be a fire heading our way doesn't mean it will petal!" Bessie calmly told her daughter as she folded the washing and put them in two piles, one for her and one for Gabby. Gabby was an only child, aged 12, and she didn't have a father. Her father died in world war 2. She never met him, she has only seen pictures of him.
"Oh mother, I am quite sure I can smell the smoky fire! It is very strong!" Gabby was getting quite worried... Well who wouldn't? Bessie went into the laundry room and loaded another wash into the machine, waking up bobby as she entered. Bobby was there pet dog, an English, black and white, boarder collie that was her Aunty Marie's. Marie was Bessie's older sister, 2 years difference in age. She was in a terrible car crash 4 years ago and she did not make it. She passed away on the way to hospital and bobby was her little puppy. Bessie took bobby into there home and he is Gabby's best friend. They go everywhere together.Gabby ran inside and packed a big bag incase they needed to leave. She put in a torch, clothes, her favourite childhood toy and book. She ran down into the basement and grabbed the box full of pictures of her father. There was also messages from him to her mother. She ran back upstairs and finished packing and then ran into her mother's bedroom and packed the same for her. She carried the bags, dog food, bottles of water, fruit, vegetables, and biscuits to the car. She piled them onto the back seat. She looked down the street at the smoke. Her ginger plaits blowing in the wind along with her knitted sweater and bootleg jeans. "MOTHER! MOTHER! MOTHER!" Gabriella shouted at the top of her voice. Her mother ran outside, down the wooden steps holding onto her faint pink dress making sure she doesn't trip over it the way down. "What sweetie? What is all the commotion abo..." She stopped in her tracks, eyes squinted and mouth hung open. "Look mother! The fire is getting closer! We need to leave!" Gabby cried. "Oh my! Quick Gabriella get Bobby and put him in the boot whilst I pack some bags and get some food!" Bessie was shaken with fright!
"Wait mother! I have already packed the bags and food and water... Just get Bobby!" Gabby opened the boot ready for Bobby to get in. Whoosh! Out the door Bessie and Bobby flew! They climbed into the car and took off down the road in the opposite direction to the fire. Or was it?
