She was the only person distraught by Aliah's death. No one else knew or understood her best friend the way she did.
They were so close. A pair made in heaven, they said they'd never need anyone else, as long as they had each other anyway. They called themselves the 'Troublesome Two.'
How original right?
Mia let out a bitter laugh at that, if only she realised that trouble would follow them everywhere they went.
Things were not always this tense.
Usually they were a light and happy pair. As if nothing could ever destroy the "too bright for the night" group.
But with the light in their faces, came the shadows that lurked behind them. Ready to drag them away into the darkness when they got the chance.
Mia felt a gentle hand rest on her shoulder and immediately she shrugged it off. Her head whipping up so fast, that it gave her a whiplash.
Her mother looked down at her softly and smiled comfortingly.
"How about you and I get out of this depressing place for a bit- you know? Appreciate what we have and all."Mia forced out a smile and replied "I'd like that." Her mother wrapped and arm around her shoulder and guided her to the car, opening the door for her.
"So where should we head? You up for some pancakes at Daisy's or a Spanish homemade omelet?" Mia could tell her mother was trying. She didn't want to seem ungrateful or irritable.
But she was tired. Not in an- I'm exhausted because I did a lot of work- kind of way. But more of a- my heart is drowning in my own tears and is not cooperating with my brain, therefore I can barely move- kind of way.
She grimaced a little at the one hour drive home. Their town was really small so it only had one cemetery, which obviously would be on the other side.
Then an idea struck her.
"Can we go to Aliah's house before they move out one last time? I want to see the memories before they leave?" She looked up at he mother hopefully. Her mother sighed but agreed hoping that Fiona would allow them to see her dead daughter's room. Something so precious to her, Mariyl herself couldn't imagine loosing her own daughter Mia.
She couldn't imagine loosing the tiny doll she had once held in her arms and covered in a blanket. Or the one who she would tell off when she threw a tantrum.
A tiny doll that she herself couldn't believe she raised.
