You were busy baking cakes and cookies in the kitchen. Your hair a mess just like your kitchen, flour on your apron, let's just say everything was not what people who knew you in school would expect. No one really knew about your personal life. At school you were just this average girl, average looks, average social life and average grades. Well, that's what you would describe yourself as.
You were startled by the sudden ringing of the doorbell to your apartment. It rang more than just once in fact.
"I'm coming!" You quickly grabbed a wet cloth and rubbed your hands as you walked in a fast pace towards the door. You unlocked the door and opened it, revealing a pair of siblings smiling at you.
"You know, you didn't have to spam the doorbell." You said with your right arm placed on your waist, furrowing your brow.
"She wanted to go in as soon as possible." Vernon said, scratching the back of his neck while Sofia just gave you and eye smile. You gestured for them to come in and locked the door after.
"The cakes and cookies aren't ready yet, so you two could just wait in the living room." You said as you entered the kitchen.
"Where's Snow?" Sofia asked very loudly.
"She's in my bedroom! You can go play with her if you want, just don't let her out of there!"
Sofia probably went ahead to play with the little puppy so Vernon went to the kitchen to see how you were doing.
"Woah, I haven't seen your kitchen in such a mess since forever." He leaned against the counter.
"I guess it has been a long time..." Your voice cracked when you said that, memories of when you and Vernon would bake together in the past while you were still dating. He would always mess up since he wasn't good at baking, but you taught him how. Looking back, you taught of all the fun times you had together. You acted as if it didn't bother you, but deep down inside, your heart still ached. Your grip on the whisk loosening. You felt weak all of a sudden.
You stopped mixing for a while and closed your eyes, taking a deep breath. While your eyes were closed, you felt someone grab your hand. Your eyes shot open, looking down at the sight of Vernons hand wrapped around yours which was still holding onto the whisk. His body close to yours, too close. Your tears were on the verge of spilling and you bit your bottom lip.
"What are you-" Your voice was shaky.
"I still like- No- Love you, you know?" He spoke softly into your ear. You stayed silent. You couldn't completely remember the reason behind your break up, all you could remember was how hurt you felt.
Right then, you were interrupted by the ringing of the timer you had set earlier. Taking this chance, you brushed off his hand and quickly made your way to the oven. You were still in a cluster mess when you opened the oven and proceeded to grab the tray, forgetting to put your mittens on. You hissed in pain and went to the sink to rinse your hand in cold water.
Everything was a mess in your head right now. You felt frustrated, a sigh escaping your lips.
A split second later, a first aid kit appeared beside the sink. The water was turned off and you hand was being dried gently by Vernon. He applied aloe vera onto your burn. You looked up at him, admiring his looks. He finished applied the aloe and raised his head only to find you staring at him.
"Enjoying the view?" He chuckled and winked at you.
"I don't know, Mingyu looks pretty hot compared to you." You said.
"Oh, so you like him now?" His expression changed.
"I don't know, is he looking for a girlfriend right now?" You asked in a more serious tone. He actually thought that you were serious and let out a frustrated sigh as he turned away.
You dipped your finger in a bowl of batter that was near enough for you to reach without moving.
"Hey." You called out to him. He turned his head and you didn't even think twice before you dragged your batter covered finger across his cheek. You laughed at how he looked now. It was the most genuine and sincere laugh you had made since your break up with him.
He stood there frozen for a while, staring at you laughing. Then he proceeded to do the same. Now you both had batter spread on your cheeks. Somehow, you two ended up chasing each other around the kitchen with bowls of batter. It felt nostalgic and it made you happy.
After a few minutes of chasing each other, you tripped on something causing the bowl you had in your arms leaving your grasp, and you about to have your face planted into the floor.
Lucky for you, Vernon caught you before your face met with the floor, pulling you up. His left hand was still gripping your wrist and right hand still on your waist even after you were standing steadily.
"Uh, you can let go now..."
"Just a while more..." He said, pulling you closer to him until your bodies were practically pressed against each other. You could hear his heartbeat. It was unusually fast, but probably not as fast as yours right this moment.
"I... missed you..." You muffled into his chest, loud enough for him to hear as you wrapped your arms around him. He jumped up slightly at your words and tightened his arms around you, almost to the point where you couldn't breathe.
"I missed you too..." He nuzzled into your neck. There was a moment of silence until you decided to speak up.
"Should we..." You started.
"Get back together?" He continued.
You stared at each other for a while.
"I don't see why not." You both said in sync, giggling at your synchronization.
