'I miss you.'
Maddie finger hovered over her phone as she debated sending the text. On one hand, she missed the best friend she had lost exactly three months ago. On the other side of things, she has a strong feeling that nothing would come out it. Was it really worth it for her to get her hopes up that Chloe would reply, when in reality she knew of the minimal chance that would happen?
'Yes.' She decided.
Message sent.
Without even meaning to, Maddie scrolled upwards, revealing messages back and forth from the days of being best friends. She hasn't read them since the day their friendship broke, when she sat in her room crying, reading the messages of what used to be.
The three month anniversary of the broken friendship seemed like a perfect time to reminisce and read the messages that she and Chloe and sent over the past years. The dynamic duo had talked about everything. Jokes, stories, crushes and even revealing their darkest secrets to each other, unaware that one day they would break apart, leaving their secrets the with someone who was basically a stranger.
---
While Maddie was reminiscing, Chloe was only a few miles away doing the exact opposite, having a sleepover with her newfound friends. After she and Maddie had the argument, she found herself spending all her time with some cheerleaders from who school. She wasn't a cheerleader - dance was defiantly more her thing, but she managed to befriend the girls on the bus one day and they instantly became friends.
Their friendships however was nothing like the one Chloe and Maddie once shared. Actually, it was pretty much the opposite. As much as Chloe did love her new group of friends, she missed the conversations she would have with Maddie. They had meaningful conversations and amazing memories she secretly wished she could relive.
As for Chloe's new friends?
Their biggest concern was sephora being out of lip gloss, and kissing their Zach Efron posters. Not quite Chloe's first choice in a friend, but without them she would be a loner.
"Hey Chlo, can I use your mascara?" Skylar, the girl Chloe probably had the least in common with asked.
"Yeah sure." Chloe sighed. Secretly, she thought the cake face of makeup Skylar already had all over her face was enough but her because of her kind personality, she would never say that out loud.
As she carefully threw her mascara to Skylar, who was across the room sitting in front of Chloe's makeup mirror, a familiar sound began to chime. It was a sound she hadn't heard in three months.
Maddie's ringtone.
While the girls were still friends, Maddie was going through a hard time. Chloe had told her to text her whenever she needed her and then set her ringtone to the loudest sound, a really obnoxious ding that would wake her up so she could be there for Maddie even in the wee hours of the morning.
She immediately picked up her phone from the bedside table beside her. She didn't expect much, it would have probably been a wrong number. Why would Maddie want to talk to her? She was the one that stormed out of Chloe's room exactly three months ago.
'I miss you.'
Chloe was immediately shook with surprise. She had no idea what she was meant to reply. 'Me too, let's forget our argument and pretend we never stopped talking.'? It wasn't that simple. One too many insults were thrown for them to just forget everything like that.
Chloe looked back up at her friends, who were now googling Hollywood rumours. Who was Taylor Swift dating this week? What happened with Kanye West? Chloe didn't care and she didn't understand why the others did either. She then looked back to her phone, still surprised Maddie would text her.
New friends? Maddie? New friends? Maddie?
She unblocked her phone and began typing a simple, four word message.
'I miss you too.'
