"This is my cousin Lewis" Cayden says from beside me. "And these are the lovely Lady Emily and Lady Amber"he introduces.
"It's a pleasure to meet you" Lewis smirks next to me.
"Emily how's your leg?" Cayden asks with the usual look of concern on his face.
"Better, I actually got dressed by myself today" I say proudly.
"Well if you ever need any help I'm here" Lewis offers, earning a glare from his cousin.
"I think I'll be fine" I retort with a sweet smile as dinner is served.
"Emily can you help me?" I hear Avery's small voice ask from across the table. Seeing her attempt to cut her steak I try my hardest to keep myself from laughing. Taking her plate I start to cut her dinner into small bitesize pieces like my mum did for me. "Thank you" she smiles as I hand her plate back and focus back on my own food. I hear Cayden talking to Amber about something intently as Lewis leans closer to me.
"You look very beautiful tonight Lady Emily" he compliments.
"Thank you"
"I don't mean to be rude, but how come you're in that chair?" he asks looking genuinely interested.
"It's not a big deal I was just shot by a rebel" I brush off and quickly add "I'll be able to walk again in a couple days" when I see the worry in his features.
"That's good to hear" he smiles down at me. "How is it living in the palace?" he changes the direction of the conversation. I think for a minute before deciding on my answer.
"Different", I elaborate as he gestures for me to continue "I never really had all this luxury. I'm a six- well I guess I'm a two now but still. And most of the girls here hate me" I babble on as he patiently listens.
"They're just jealous" Amber joins in, earning a small playful glare from me.
"She's right" Lewis concedes, "You're the most beautiful women here". This causes me to blush profusely. "How would you like to have lunch with me tomorrow in the gardens?" he offers. I hear a loud cough from Cayden at his cousin's request but ignore it.
"That sounds nice, it saves me from having lunch with the giggling lovestruck fools" I laugh gesturing to the table next to us where the group of girls are giggling and staring at Cayden. At seeing their behaviour Lewis bursts into a deep and clearly uncontrollable chuckle, drawing everyones attention to us.
"So you're having lunch with Lewis" Cayden sates while lying next to me on top of the bed.
"Yeah" I nod while staring up to the ceiling. "I wasn't really sure of him at first but what's the worst that can happen" I add thinking out loud. Clearly unhappy with the direction of conversation Cayden swiftly changes topics.
"Aren't you going to ask me how my date with Grace went?" he asks looking for a reaction. Weirdly just the mention of Cayden on a date turns my stomach. Ugh I need to stop feeling like this!
"Grace went on for three hours about it" I laugh hoping to cover up my discomfort. Feeling the silence build I decide to ask him anyway, "so how do you think it went?".
"It was ok but I don't think we'll go on any more" he confesses.
"Why not?" I ask sitting up.
"Because the whole time all I could think about was the horrible things she said about you earlier", Cayden sits up as well.
"Don't dismiss her because of something she said, she was probably just nervous about your date and she didn't mean to say those things" I try to convince him no matter how much it's actually making me hurt. Emily this is what you've always wanted. To go home, not to fall for the prince.
"You want me to look at other girls?" he questions as I look down into my lap.
"Yes" I mutter trying to sound confident in my decision.
"I'm not sure I can do that" he argues in a deep voice. Looking up I see his broad figure now sitting in front of me and his hand reach out to brush a loose piece of hair behind my ear.
"Why?" I stumble out.
"Because I don't feel about her like I do for you"' he leans even closer. Unable to comprehend what he just said I end up staring dumbly at him. Feeling the space between us decrease I panic and look back down at my hands. "Why do you always push me away? you need to stop overthinking. Do you like me?" he asks the question I've had stuck in my head for the past couple of days. Looking up into his blue eyes I see all the vulnerability hidden deep within, reminding me that he's not the person I once believed he was.
"Yes" I finally admit. What am I thinking? With my body working by itself I crash our lips together. Feeling Cayden's now familiar arms encase my waist I let him pull me onto his lap, not stopping our kiss for a second. This is not like the other kisses we have previously shared. Instead of being reserved and reluctant it's full of unexpressed emotions. His hot lips pressed against mine rhythmically sending shocks along my body. I've never felt anything like this before and it unnerves me. Pulling away for much needed oxygen Cayden places his forehead against mine. Completely absorbed by his eyes I can see the excitement spill across Cayden's face as his smirk grows. A single tear falls from my eye.
"There's nothing to be scared about".
