one week later

every square inch of the house was littered with security cameras

particularly because mom wanted to monitor my every move she no longer trusted me to be at home on my own anymore

she took more days off so she was home more often, to monitor my every move

the most I did was

eat, sleep, cry, watch Netflix, and avoid mom at all cost

I had so much built up anger towards her for taking Shawn away from me

I missed him.

he was the only friend I had and she stole that from me.

"Payton Im headed to work, can you check the mail for me please?"

"Oh so you finally trust me to go to the mailbox?" I murmured placing a spoonful of cereal into my mouth

"Can you please just check?" She questioned "Anything with your dads name on it just let me know."

I didn't answer and mom let out an elongated sigh "I don't expect you to understand why I'm doing what I'm doing and why your life is better off this way but just know I'm doing it because I love you."

"No you're only doing this because you don't trust me!" I yelled slamming my spoon down into the bowl of milk the white liquid splashed from out of the bowl dispersing its way across the marble counter top

"I have to go to work." Mom responded dryly "Get that Milk cleaned up."

My eyes were shut tight out of frustration, I stood up from the bar rather quickly and slammed the glass bowl into the sink and it was to my dismay that the glass broke and began tumbling down the the drain I held my head down and began to cry my eyes out, because the reality was I was feeling a lot like that glass—broken.

~*•~*•~

after crying for hours on end I finally managed to dry my eyes and make my way to the mail box, I looked around hoping that maybe just maybe Shawn would be outside as well but he wasn't I pulled the mail box open and there was one envelope and a folded sheet of paper the envelope was addressed to mom and the piece of paper had no name on it, I unfolded it reading over the words that had been messily scribed onto the paper

Payton,

This feels like the thirtieth letter I've sent to your house and I still haven't heard anything back from you I assume it's because your moms been checking the mail and probably discarding them but one day if you do so happen to see this I need you to know that I miss you and I still think about you everyday write me back when you can

-Shawn

I smiled and peered over my shoulder at the security camera that was pointed directly at me and for a moment I felt relentless, I didn't care If I got in trouble I had to see him again so I ran, and I ran fast so fast that I was at Shawn's house in mere seconds I lifted my hand to the door pounding on it eagerly.

"Are you trying to break in my ho-" His face softened and his mouth gaped open as he looked at me "Payton what are you doing here?"

"You left this in my mailbox."

His eyes shifted downwards towards the folded sheet of paper that I held in my hands and his lips curved upward into a wide smile
