"No way in hell, Hannah. I'm not walking up to that scary dude and ask for a selfie" I say firmly to my best friend.
"Oh come on, Leah! He's not that scary! You're just finding excuses to get out of this" Hannah cries in protest.
You see, I'm a very shy girl and by that I mean blushes-when-a-cute-guy-asks-for-a-pen-and-stammers-out-a-reply shy. So, my genius of a best friend decided that she would be the one to help me break out of my shell and planned out this stupid technique of making me walk over to random guys and ask for a selfie.
As much as I appreciated her efforts, I had been stuck in a lot of awkward situations already because of it, from a possessive girlfriend wanting to rip all of my hair out to standing next to a really smelly guy to pose for a picture, from getting oggled by two creepy guys to flirted on by a sexy player, from getting an autograph free with a selfie from a self-obsessed jerk to made fun of by a group of jocks. After having gone through all that, you can't really blame me for being apprehensive of walking upto a scary looking dude.
"I'm not making excuses" I say, taking a sip of the coffee, "Just not that guy, please. Pick anyone else but him"
We were currently seated at a small café after a long day of school. Senior year is so stressful.
"Okay, fine" Hannah says, sighing then immediately moving on to scan the crowd around us, "Let me see..."
I shake my head at her. Looks like she ain't gonna give up today until I take atleast one selfie, I thought. So imagine my surprise when after almost half an hour, Hannah sighed and said she couldn't find anyone worth taking a selfie with, even though I spotted a few cute guys but I wasn't gonna tell her that and ruin the only day I got off the hook ever since this selfie challenge began almost a month ago.
I happily exit the café, saying goodbye to Hannah and begin walking back home while listening to music and going through the selfies I had taken.
I smile at the progress I had made, from stuttering and awkward smiles to basic flirting and silly faces.
I had hoped Hannah would stop this after seeing my progress, but she made me carry on for some reason, which I suspect is her own entertainment. I was clearly done here but she refused to end this before our one month deadline which had only 3 days left now, thankfully.
Although, this was really fun at times and managed to get rid of my stuttering and blushing, but I still tend to get a bit awkward or uncomfortable around cute guys. I can't wait for these 3 days to get over and I just hope they don't bring in any surprises.

Next day, as I'm shuffling through my locker for the book I need, Hannah comes to stand beside me and sighs dramatically, "I still haven't found anyone. I don't get it! It never takes me this long to find a guy"
I smirk at her choice of words and say, "Yes, it doesn't"
She just rolls her eyes, the corners of her mouth lifting up in a half smile, "I meant for you"
I shut the locker after taking my advanced English text and say, "Well, then I hope you don't find anyone until these last 3 days"
"Oh, don't you worry about that. I'm going to find someone for your last challenge definitely and trust me, its not gonna be easy" Hannah smirks leaning against my locker.
"We'll see about that" I shake my head at her and start making my way towards my class when suddenly I collide with something hard. I stumble and drop my book to the floor.
Bending down to collect the book, I realize it wasn't something but someone, a guy wearing really nice shoes and ripped jeans.
I stand up clutching the book in my arms and start to say, "I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking...", but my sentence trails off when I realize who it is. Cole Matthews.
Remember when I gave the blushes-when-a-cute-guy-asks-for-a-pen-and-stammers-out-a-reply example? Well, that wasn't really an example. It had actually happened to me many times...all with him.
First time in third grade, but it kept happening after that too even now. Sometimes I think, Cole purposely forgets a pen just so he can turn in class and ask me to see my reaction, but that can't possibly true. Why would a guy as hot as Cole be intrested in seeing my reaction to anything?
Since our town is that middle of nowhere kinda small town with only one primary, middle and high school each, I have known Cole my entire life and since our surnames come after each other, Matthews and Mavin, I have also been seated behind him in most of the classes too all through middle and high school.
"Wow, I didn't know you were capable of forming a sentence without stuttering" he says, with a half smile on his face.
I quickly look away, blushing, "Um...I...I...am"
"And we are back to the stuttering!" Cole says, sighing, "Here I was thinking, this would finally be the day you would talk to me"
I continue to look down, not saying anything.
He lets out another sigh and tries one last time, "See you in English?"
I give him a quick glance and nod, wanting him to go away from here as soon as possible.
"Okay then..." he says, turning around and walking towards our English class.
I wish I could actually talk to him, but something about him just makes me blush and stutter everytime he even asks for a pen, so I gave up on making a conversation a long time ago to save myself from the embarassmemt.
"What the hell was that?", the incredulous voice of my best friend distracts me from my muddled thoughts, making me realize that she saw my embarassing encounter with Cole.
I don't give her an answer and start making my way towards class too in hopes of her letting me go, but I should have known better.
Hannah jogs upto me and takes hold of my arm dragging me to the girls restroom, "You're not getting away so soon, missy. Tell me what was all that about? I thought you were making progress"
I sigh, "I am"
"Oh really? Because what just happened by your locker made it seem like you were back to square one"
"I am not" I say, panicked that she might drag on this challenge, "Look its just Cole, okay?"
"Are you trying to say that you can handle the guy with the possessive girlfriend and the sexy player but you can't handle the pen guy?" Hannah exclaims.
She knew all about mine and Cole's embarassing pen episodes. After all, it was after one such episode that she came up with her selfie challenge to help me break out of my shell.
"Yes" I say, "Its just difficult with him, okay? Just forget about it"
"Why, because you have a crush on him?"
"I don't" I exclaim.
Hannah just shoots me a look.
"Okay fine, maybe I do" I say, frustrated, "Now can I go? I'm getting late for class"
I march past her towards the door but she blocks my way. I'm about to protest but the words die on my mouth as I notice that determined and excited expression in her eyes, telling me that she has come up with an idea that I won't like for sure.
"I think I just found a guy for your last selfie" she says, eyeing me with that smirk and mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Who?" I ask, already knowing full well who she is talking about.
"Cole Matthews"
