I slowly exit the small cove, my last plaything stopped screaming and thrashing, also especially stopped providing food.
I wandered through the woods. One benefit of humans spreading faster than a weed, was that they brought the best meat around.
I hardly paced an hour when I came across building touching the sky, with two red lines going through it. Perfect, easy prey
Sticking to the shadows, I dashed through the lights, taking back alleys. I avoided areas with the most humans, never too cautious, don't want a nationwide man-hunt for me, urban legends tend to send enough food searching for me.
The hospital's doors stood closed, but I know how these work. Waiting for the human to look at the computer, then I dashed through and behind a sign. All she would have seen was a door malfunction. I waited once more for her to look at the computer, then I dashed to the stairwell, taking the stairs three at a time.
The security guard saw a huge, gray blur ascending up the stairwell, almost like a.... wolf? He checked the next monitor, nothing. He grabbed his pager as he checked the next camera. There! The next camera, nothing again, and none on the one after. he just about checked the hall, but was paralyzed with fear when he heard a low growl behind him...
What an odd defense tactic, freezing, then falling to the floor. The blue's heartbeat was racing, then it abruptly stopped. I'm not picky, but I like my food fresh, so I left him. At least there was no blood, no reason for anyone to think they were not alone.
Dashing through the hall, I hid under a desk until a nurse opened a door and entered. Now, I had to wait until they exited, then I ran through the gently closing door, the nurse was the type who let go of the door and let momentum finish closing it.
The nurse failed to hear the little click of the door, and she turned to see what kept it from closing, nothing was there, but then she heard a scream.
I ripped out the little cords, grabbed the screaming woman in my snout, and crashed out the window.
