The annoying sound of a steady beep was the first thing I heard through my haze of unconsciousness.

The second sensation I felt was the return of my sense of smell and that horrible sterile odor.

I felt as if I had been crushed by a hundred of trucks and the superfluous number of hangovers seemed nothing compared to the headache I seemed to have now.

My eyelids felt too heavy to fully open them. My limbs felt like tons of bricks and a slight pain tugged along my veins.

With this awareness came the flood of memories. The girls, the balloons Squad, the subway, the party and finally, Chris.

I remember running down the stairs and then nothing.

I felt frowning while keeping my eyelids closed alerting no matter who was with me. "Céleste ? You awake? Oh my god, she's awake."

My mind quickly caught on my mother's familiar voice before she was soon joined by several other familiar voices for me.

I recognized those of the girls as my mother whispered in my ear asking me to open my eyelids and then it was probably Chris's rough, exhausted voice that brought me back to consciousness.

I beat my lashes several times to try to get used to the sudden blinding light aggressing my pupils before feeling my face being held by an unknown hand. "Miss. Nogen ?! Miss. Nogen, do you hear me ?"

I left a slight grunt in response as I felt suddenly thirsty before trying to lift my arm weighing a ton to hold the hand of my face in vain.

"The pupils answer. The motor functions seem to be good." I heard through my waking mist making me close my eyelids as the light abruptly left my eyes. "I'm the doctor. Hayes. Miss. Nogen, do you know where you are ?"

I opened my eyelids to see a grilling man hovering over me before I could lift my arm to sign my dry throat.

"Right. Give me a glass of water. Dehydration may be a side effect of vagal discomfort."

I suddenly felt a cup lean over my lips letting me take a sip of fresh water soothing the fire down my throat.

I straightened slightly once I had finished the glass in one sip before asking for more.

At this point I realized that I was in a hospital only I was still a little too far out of myself to notice the large group of girls and my boyfriend hovering anxiously around my bed.

The only person I was really aware of was my mother on the side of my bed. "Céleste ? My baby ? Honey, are you okay ?"

"Yeah." I croaked hoarsely before letting myself fall back against the pillow in exhaustion as I turned to the doctor. " What has happened ? "

"You had a discomfort last night. Your boyfriend, I presume..." He paused as he moved slightly, letting me make eye contact with the girls before I stopped on Chris looking terribly guilty and worried. "Have to bring you to the emergency room. "

I swallowed my eyes away from Chris as I remembered last night's incident before stiffening at my mother's curious request. " I don't understand. Why did she feel uneasy? She is in perfect health."

"Small discomforts are very common in her case. Especially if she has undergone a high dose of stress."

" Excuse me ? Her case ?"

I snapped my throat with my wide eyes before taking my mother's hand. "Momma, no."

" No ?" Repeated my mother, frowning at me. " How's that, no ? Céleste, what's going on? "
