Hello. Welcome to my mid-year book freak out tag. Honestly, I don't know who started this tag but I saw emmabooks do it and I thought it looked pretty cool. First things first, as of June 4th 15:44, I have finished 45 "books". Now, this includes graphic novels and some musicals which have lyric books to go with them. So, have I actually read 45 books? Well, in my opinion, yes. And, as this is my contribution to the tag, my opinion is what matters. Now- I have less than 10 pages left of a book... yet I do not feel like finishing it at this very moment, so that will not be included. (It's the Philosopher's Stone by the way).
So without going on any more long-winded tangent-y... things, let's start this tag.
1. Favourite book this year so far
Heartless by Marissa Meyer (released February 2017).
Can you fall in love with a book? This book made me believe you can. I read this book in February and I still think of it from time to time. I want to reread it but also don't want to ruin my first impression of it. I can't explain definitively why I liked it, I just liked it- a lot. Maybe it was Jest, being the cool dude he was. But I will tell you this: this book had great characters and a great setting. You hated the characters and events you were supposed to hate without it making you hate the book itself. If you don't already love Alice In Wonderland retellings- or the O.G.- you will fall in love with the world and want more after this book.
Favourite sequel of the year so far
The Reptile Room by Lemony Snicket (released August 1999).
I have read this book before. I read it when I was nine or ten. Even when I read it then, I was enamoured by how smart the Baudelaires are- especially Violet in this instalment of this series. I do believe that this book is the series strongest instalment- at least as far as I have read (book six). This is my favourite in this series anyway, as well as my favourite sequel (that I've read this year). It has great sense of place and a great handle on its characters.
New release that you haven't read yet but really want to (jan-may)
When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon (released May 2017).
It took me more than a minute to really decide whether I have 'really wanted' to read any new releases but hadn't got around to these books I 'really wanted to' get around to. I do think I really did get around to the new releases that I 'really wanted to' get around to, such as, History Is All You Left Me. any of my other highly anticipated releases come at the end of the year, which I don't mind. But I settled on When Dimple Met Rishi because I really do want to read this but I'm not in a rush to either. I've only heard good things about this book on booktube and it seems like it would be a great summer read. Who knows? Maybe I'll get around to it before the end of the summer?
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year (june-dec)
Feel Good 101 by Emma Blackery (releases September 2017).
The moment that Emma Blackery announced that this was going to be a thing, it became my most anticipated book for the year. Yes, it even exceeds my anticipation for the release of the next Adam Silvera book and the next Throne of Glass book. It is the kind of book that I will want to start reading as soon as I get it, which surprisingly doesn't happen often for me. Usually a book sits on my shelf at least until the return policy runs out. I don't say I'll read this book very quickly as it is a 'self-help' book. But it would probably be a good book for the start of college.
Biggest disappointment of the year so far
History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera (released January 2017).
