I wiped my sweaty palms against my shorts as Mr. Saltzman talks about the Cold War in preparation for our final test. I looked down at my digital clock planted in my hand counting down to the day I meet my soul mate.
00 days 01 hour 47 minutes 38 seconds
I opened my eyes wide open and turned over to Ava who was sitting next to me.
"1 hour left..." I said
"Scar...just breathe" Ava said firmly.
I looked up at her to see her eyebrows furrowed and her lips in a firm line, and slowly they formed a smile.
"What if your soul mate is Mr. Saltzman?" she giggled.
"That means I could finally pass this class!" I laughed quietly
The bell rang Mr. Saltzman told us we had homework over the Cold War.
"I still can't believe he hasn't found his yet, I mean he's so attractive."
Ava and I both stood up with our books and walked out of the room and headed to the cafeteria.
Ava was my best friend, actually, no scratch that, my sister. We've known each other since 4th grade. She was new in class and when no one introduced themselves I felt bad, so I walked over to her and sat down and ever since then we've been inseparable.
"So 1 hour left huh, that means it could be someone in the school." She sat down and looked at me with a sly smirk. "School nerd, bad boy, or the popular athlete?"
"Ava, I don't care about th-"
"Oooo good answer." As Ava cuts me off.
"What if he doesn't like me? What if he knows who I am and finds me annoying? What if we're complete opposites and we hate it?"
"Jesus Scar. Quit jumping to conclusions." As she took an enormous bite of her pasta.
"yo yo yo."
"Hey Jonathan." We both smiled at each other than once he sat down all of his attention was on Ava.
"Hello lovely." The corners of his mouth slid upwards and his eyes lit up whenever he would see Ava.
"Hello Peach." Ava smiled at him as she gave him a kiss on the cheek Jonathan groaned at that named.
"It's been months and I don't even eat peaches that much!"
Ava and Jonathan met a couple months ago.
Ava and I were walking down the hall when her timer going started counting down by the second.
"Oh My God. Scarlett! There's 10 seconds left! What do I do? What do I do?"
I laughed and pulled her arm to stop walking and to look at me.
"Calm down. Remember what my mom told you this morning that when you're moment comes you just know. It's a gut feeling really." I explained as I pulled her midnight curls out of the ponytail and let it fall naturally down to her waist.
"4 seconds left... oh my god my heart is racing!" She put her hand up to her forehead becoming unreasonably anxious. I tried calming her down but nothing seemed to work.
I heard running feet and shouting from down the hall. I turned to see a browned hair boy with a bright, blue basketball jersey with our mascots name on the back running towards me and Ava. He was running so fast I didn't have time to stop it they crash into each other knocking everything out of their hands down across the floor.
