8:53 A.M.

I sit up surrounded by dirty sheets and scratch my head, yawning. Grabbing a cigarette and, I roll out of bed and head to the kitchen. After eating, I head out, skating as far as possible to get away from my hometown, Salem, Massachusetts. I take a long drag and slowly exhale, looking around the too-familiar city. The same trees, the same houses, the same streets. Everything in the script of "Maverick's Normal Life". I hate it.

Taking a long drag, i go to the small shitty park, jumping off my board and grabbing it. I climb up onto the top of the old rickety play-set. That's when I saw her.

A girl, a perfect one, right around my age, climbs up the same play set i'm sitting on. Eyes a little wide, I can't help but stare. A grin quirks onto her beautiful face, and i feel my teeth digging into my bottom lip.

"Do I have something on my face? Or do you just wanna kiss me?" She grins. Before I can stutter something out, she grabs my hand and shakes it. "Rose."

I nod, grinning, starting to regain my confidence. "Pretty name."

She smirks and nods, "And you are?"

"Oh..." I laugh nervously. "Sorry. I'm-"

"No no no. Don't apologize. I don't do those."

"Maverick." I grin and slide my tongue across my bottom lip. I start to take a drag,  but she reaches over and plucks the cigarette from between my lips.

She takes a long drag and holds it in for a few seconds, leaning back on me. She looks up and blows the smoke in a thin stream to my face. I grin and breath it in, slowly wrapping my arm around her waist. She smirks and takes the cigarette from her lips and puts it back between mine, sitting up and stretching. I can't help but watch, as a small sliver of skin shows from under the tank top. Her fiery blue eyes snap back and look at me, burning into my soul. "I sense that you want something, but you can't have it." She says softly, putting her hand on my thigh.

I draw a raspy breath and nod, looking away. "Um... yeah. And why can i not have it?" I look back at her.

She climbs onto my lap and runs a hand through my hair slowly. I gulp and bite down on my lip, starting to reach for her waist again. "Because you just can't." She winks and stands up, turning and sliding down the slide.

I stumble up and fall as I attempt to slide down after her. She laughs and runs to the swing set, starting to swing happily. I grin and follow her. "What a tease, Rose."

She bites her lip slightly and nods. "That's me, Mav."

I nod, hearing distant strikes of thunder. Rose stands quickly, looking slightly alarmed. "I have to go." She frowns.

I scrunch my brow. "Why so soon? I haven't even kissed you yet." I joke.

She nods and walks over, grabbing me by the collar and pulling me close. My breath hitches as she gets closer. Closer. Closer. So close. But not quite. I feel her warm breath tickling my lips. I want to close the tiny gap. So so bad. But I don't. She starts to pull away. I sigh and she grins, then whispers, "I really have to go."

I nod. "What's your number?"

"I don't have a phone."

I blink and look away. When I look back, she's gone. My eyes widen as I look around for her. "Damn, she's fast," I mumble and shake my head, running a hand through my hair.

"Maverick?" My eyes widen even more as I hear a familiar voice.

I turn and look into the dark eyes of my ex girlfriend. "Hi, Cleo."

She grins. "Who was that bitch I just saw you with?"

I roll my eyes and shrug. "Her name is Rose. What's it to you?"

She takes a pull from her cigarette before dropping it to the ground and crushing it under her faded leather boots. "Well, I think you could do better. You could do me." She winks.

I smirk and shake my head. "I don't think so sweetheart. You know I'm not good with commitments."

Cleo grins crookedly and walks over to me, wrapping her arms around my neck. "Aw baby, I know you miss me." She leans over and kisses my neck gently, nipping at it.

I shudder and shake my head, leaning it back and looking at the sky. I want to step back but I don't. I regret it. Every second.

6:27 P.M.

I wake up in a familiar place with an even more familiar headache. I smell the sweet scent of leather and tobacco before realizing my mistake. Reluctantly, I look to my side and see Cleo, and the only thing covering her is the sheets. I attempt to get up, but she pulls me back. Just more and more regret.
