A clash of thunder was enough to wake me, let alone my windows being burst open due to the impact of winds. Cool air nudged my exposed legs, which caused a shiver to course my body.

I quietly yawned, and walked up to close my exposed windows, that was until I saw a shadow lurking behind, the now opened windows.

Fear coursed through me at the thought of someone watching me. I slowly crept forward to the window, trying not to make any sudden noise.

A quiet shriek left my mouth as a loud clash of thunder lit up the sky, my screech was enough to cause the shadow to run. I wasn't about to let whomever this was continue to watch me, so I ran towards the balcony.

To my surprise he or she was gone. A small note was left on the soaked floor, I picked it up admiring the note. It was an envelope, sealed with a red wax seal. Only high ranks had these kinds of seals.

I let my curiosity take the best of me and beaded back to my bed while closing the windows, this time locking them.

I ran my fingers over the circled seal admiring it, this was this first time I had ever seen one. I slid my nail under the seal popping it open, lifting the note it revealed a beautiful cursive hand writing, I was shocked when I read it.

I couldn't believe what I had just read, I never asked to participate, there must be some mistake.

I started to breath heavily and my vision was starting the blur a bit. Take deep breaths, I told myself.

What would mother think of this? She surely would be devastated if this meant I would have to leave.

The thought of leaving my mother was enough to drive me insane since we were closer than most mother/daughter relationships.

I couldn't handle this all in one night.
I layed on my thinking what would happen in the mere future.

I slowly felt my self falling back into a deep sleep, and I let it consume me and my thoughts.

My breath hitched as I looked him into the eyes, he stared at me with pure passion and lust.
I felt as if I was about to fall into his arms.
He was the by product that stopped my pain.

"Scarlett.."
"Scarlett, look at me"
I looked up seeing his now green eyes were now a pitch black.
I was stunned, I couldn't move, I stayed still.

I awoke with a gasp.

I ran a hand through my hair, taking in all that just happened. How could a dream feel so real?

I could still feel his gaze.. but who was he?

The sound of birds chirping and the smell of pancakes filled my mind, as i lost focus on my dream.

The only thought that coursed through my mind was the fact I was chosen? How could this even be.. I despise royalty. No way could I ever become such..

Your not the only one participating, I told myself..

Today was June 30th..
Which meant tomorrow I had to go to the town square..

I prayed nothing bad would happen tomorrow night.
