The Party

The car ride was hectic. The girls were annoying me about Justin and how we'd make a cute couple. "Justin and Daniel sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. " I rolled my eyes and put my head on my hand. I couldn't believe I was actually attending this party.
"Daniel! Daniel!", shouted Monica " Are you guys going to have your first kiss tonight?!? Omg!!" I put my head in my hands and groaned. Monica and Emma were laughing so hard that the Uber driver had to shut them up. Even after, they couldn't help but look at each other and giggle. I laughed and smiled lightly, thinking about what the girls said. Would we make a good couple? Suddenly, loud booming and music was heard. "wow. We're still a mile away and I can already hear the music from that party you're going to", said the driver slightly giggling. I just laughed and replying yeah. By the time we got to the beach and stepped out of the car, the music was so loud it felt like the whole world was shaking. I felt myself stop while I was getting out of the car. Waves of nervousness corrupted my whole body as I felt Monica and Emma grab my arms and pull me out of the car. "C'mon Daniel! Let's go find Justin!" I snorted, "No I think I'm ok, let's go check out the snack station." The girls laughed, " Come on, silly! We need to go find Justin. You guys are going to be official tonight!" I was shocked as I dragged my legs when they tried to pull. I took a deep breath and started to walk. " Fine guys. Don't make me look embarrassing and let's not walk near Justin. If he notices me, I'll just freak out!" The girls frowned and let go of me. " I guess it's good to just get him on your own. We can't always help you. " I looked back at them and smiled, " Thanks guys."
They smiled and walked away still laughing most likely thinking about Justin and I.  I started walking down towards the beach making sure not to see Justin. I looked down at the sand and breathed in relief that Justin was nowhere in sight.   I realized that I had knocked right into someone. I looked up and rubbed my head, " Sorry. I wasn't really paying attention. " My eyes widened as Marcus turned around to look at me. He laughed,
" Wow you actually came!" He put his arm around my shoulder as I looked at him and tried to get his arm off. "Look guys! Daniel actually decided to show up!" I heard the crowd go "Daniel" after Marcus said my name. Marcus smiled at me and pulled me over to the side away from most people.
"Marcus? Where are we going?" I called as I tried to be friendly with him and ignore my anger. He laughed, "Relax man, were just going over to the boulders to read the moon"
"Read the moon?" I replied, "Are you some kind of poet?"
He laughed again, "You're funny."
I rolled my eyes and looked over to see Justin looking my way. I smiled and waved at him, which he also did in return. Marcus read me like a book, he knew something. Probably my love for Justin. It made me feel sick and that he had great power over me. I felt like I was being forced to go with him. Forced to go 'read the moon'.
We finally reached the boulders and climbed to the tip of the tallest rock. " It's like you can see the whole world from here. " I said to Marcus.
He laughed and looked out, "Beautiful isn't it. You can see the whole other beach." He looked concerned at the beach, " It's completely empty. I mean it's not that late. There should be some people here...." I looked back to the party, "I don't think it's as weird as you're making it out to be. Now... why are we up here again?" He looked at me, right in the eyes. I stepped back, fear running through me. " Why do you hate me so much Daniel."
I gulped, " I....uh.... I don't really hate you Marcus. I mean, you annoy me for sure, but I don't hate you." He looked away, "Whatever you say? I know the truth." He sat down, looking toward the horizon. I sat down with him and got closer to him. He put his head in his knees and continued to pout. I felt bad, don't ask me why, but.... I did. I decided to just sit there, resting my head on my hands. We sat there for a while, in silence. Watching the moon follow the path that it takes a single night of the year. Finally, Marcus sat up and looked at me. He half smiled and got closer to me, putting his arm around my shoulder. I shrieked and pulled away a bit, "What are you doing?!" Marcus smiled, "You looked bored and....kinda cold." I froze as Marcus took off his coat and put it around me. I realized then, that this was getting out of hand. "Ok, Marcus...that's enough." I said as I pulled the jacket off and stood up. I looked down to the empty beach and pointed at it, "Let's go down there." Marcus smirked, "It'll be hard getting down there, but it's worth it, right?" With that, I started to climb down the mountain. I slipped a couple times, but I knew Marcus was there to catch me if I fell. He reached the bottom pretty fast, so he laughed and made fun of me for taking such a long time. "C'mon you lazy! Get down here!" ,he laughed. I rolled my eyes, "Just because you're a football player, doesn't mean you can do everything. " He laughed again as I giggled a bit too. I had finally reached the bottom, feeling Marcus grip my sides to help me down.
" Wow! I can't believe I actually did that! I'm pumped." I said as I headed toward the forest behind the beach. Marcus followed me, "That was the fun way, but there's probably an easier way to get down here though." I shook my head," Why didn't we just do that then?" He looked at me, "It wouldn't have been such a bonding moment." He continued to walk toward the forest as I stood there. I looked back at that water, it was so pristine and beautiful. It made a smile appear on my lips. My smile soon faded when I heard something behind me followed by a scream. I jumped and turned around to see Marcus being tied to a tree and trying to rip free. Someone was covering his mouth, but I could clearly make out my name from Marcus's shouting. I started to run when someone grabbed me from the back. I was terrified, absolutely terrified. I knew that this was the end. I'd never see anyone I loved again. I would die there, on such a pristine beach, with such a great moon filling the sky with beauty. It was all being slain by these people who wanted to harm us. I felt them tie me up next to Marcus because I felt the warmth of his body against my back. I turned around to see a tear stream down his face. That's when I knew, we were absolutely screwed.
