You never could have noticed. Just a small tap in the walls. A small thud but its soothing voice releasing your mind of all thoughts and making you feel as though you could do anything. The house was old. To a child of great imagination this tap was a message from a castle filled with unknown riches, secret passage ways, and dark secrets. The girl in the back seat of a pale gray van was such a child.
The girl and her family had just arrived and were happy to get out of their car. They had traveld for nine hours accross the country just to get to a small boat that was going to bring them to their new house, on an island, on a hill. In the seat the child was quietly playing with two sticks as if they were two swords fighting to gain a maidens hand. The car lurched causing the girl to drop her sticks. She bent down to pick them up. She was short for her age and had even shorter arms, so she couldn't reach her dropped treasure.
"Sophie, what are you doing?" Asked a pale woman with blond hair that stood up every direction. This was her mother.
"My knights dropped their swords and..." she was cut short. Sadly Sophie was born into a family that no longer beloved in magic or other "nonsense " as they refferd to it. So if Sophie brought up any talk about it she would be punished.
"Sophie," her mother scolded, "you know we do not talk about these things!"
"But mom why not?"
"Just... Just... because we don't!" Yelled her mother. Even though she was angry her voice was filled with sadness. Soon enough the boat came and the family of two grabbed their things and hopped on board. The boat ride was horrible. Foggy and wet. Happily the slight figure of an island came into view. The boat came to a rattling stop and the driver helped Sophie and her mom off the boat onto the dock. The car that came to pick them up was just that, a car. It had a brown paint job weird brown wheels, and a top that could be opened. To Sophie this was a carriage waiting to take her to the ball. As soon as it came speeding down the hill it started to rain.
" Hurry get in! " called a voice from the cars open window. The drivers face was unknown until Sophie leaped into the car to get out of the rain. The voice came from a man of around fifty. He had messy brown hair and a stub of a cigar in his mouth. As soon as Sophie got in the smell of smoke filled her nostrils and she felt sick. Her mother did not approve of the smell either. The car sped off down the muddy dirt road. After sitting in a smoke filled car speeding up twisted roads, the car finally came to a stop at the bottom of a driveway leading up to an old house. Sophie slowly opened her door mouth agape, she smiled. She ran as fast as she could to the front door, stopped and waited for her mother.soon enough her mom came carrying all their bags. She handed Sophie the key and she opened the door. Inside was a big entryway with a huge stairway leading to the second and third floors. To the side was a door leading to the kitchen. On the other side, a door lead out to the courtyard. Sophie stepped out side as her mother out things away. Sophie had found her castle.
