Dinner had finally arrived and Sophie was starving. The two family members ate the feast of boxed Chinese food in silence. They had eaten like this ever since Sophie's father had vanished. After dinner Sophie went strait to her empty room. Soon after she had jumped into her cold sheets she fell strait to sleep.
Sophie tossed and turned under the torn sheet for she and her mother had not unpacked yet. Finally after hours of freezing cold sleep she finally worked up enough energy to explore for a blanket. The small girl tiptoed to the door and slowly opened it, pausing in fear of waking her sleeping mother. After the door was wide enough for her to slip out, she crept out into the cold empty hall. At this point Sophie was walking on the sides of her feet because her feet were so cold. Soon she came to a great door in the middle of the hall that had no use of being there at all. She went to open it..Sophie froze, the slight sound of feet hitting the floor echoed throughout the house.
"Sophie," came a faint voice from down the hall. "are you down there?" Sophie made no sound hoping that her mother would go away. As hoped the dreaded door slowly swung shut and her mother's sleep was once again undisturbed. Forgetting about her blanket mission, she opened the door. Inside was a light blue room with many children toys and a small round bed. In the bed slept a boy. In her wonder, Sophie came closer to the boy. He sat up with a start." Mommy is that you?" Sophie jumped and ran out of the room and slammed the door behind her. As soon as it was shut she caught her bearings but then continued back to her room. Silently she told herself that she would investigate the small blue room in the morning.
