This is my interview with ImSomewhatOkaySugar
They have 277 followers at the moment and 14 published works including Cigarette Light which is a Frerard and Cemetery Drive which is a Frerard with 9k reads.
1. Why did you decide to first make your Wattpad account?
I'm gonna give everyone the truth since I think that's the best way to be. Honestly it was by part a few different things that made me create my account.
The idea of fanfiction all together started when I read one specific amazing Frerard called Never Coming Home and it really struck a nerve with me, so I started to write what would become my first Frerard fanfic on this site which is Cigarette Light. It took six months to write what I have currently uploaded and only then did I have the overwhelming need to share it with someone.
So that's a huge part of it, also the fact that from the very start of my school career right to the end I was bullied mercilessly, for four years in comprehensive school (I suppose like high school for everyone not in the UK) I was forced to sit alone because nobody would talk to me, acknowledge me or even go near me unless it was to bully me. I was that weird emo punk kid that everyone hated.
Finding this site and seeing the strong community of people that liked the same things and welcomed the weird just made me feel like it was somewhere I could belong, so that was a final push to create an account. Long story right? Haha!
2. Where do you get your inspiration to write from?
Ooooh. Well first off that fanfiction I talked about in the first answer, Never Coming Home. That's a beautiful fanfic and I actually have it linked somewhere, I think it's on my conversations page on here. That fic hit me hard and made me want to create something beautiful and meaningful.
Then there's also the one man that has always inspired everything I do, it's cliche to say it but Gerard Way has been like a force that has inspired, pushed and reassured me since like, 2004.
He's the reason I am how I am, why I write, do art, why I'm pursuing my love of music as a career and why I'm brave enough to dress and be however I want unapologetically. He's an amazing man, he's why I'm here right now physically able to do this interview!
Also the fact that I'm up the horror genres ass like 80% of the time so there's that.
3. Do you enjoy writing oneshots or full length fics more?
Shit man that's a tough one! It depends on what kinda thing I'm writing.
I like to create a one shot to get a feeling for a character, so like I did with Cemetery Drive, I started it out as a oneshot to see if me and my characters had a good connection and could work together well and writing that oneshot at the start of that book really solidified the fact that they were characters I could work with and get to know.
It depends on the situation too, it's really just whenever my brain wants to stop something. I could write a oneshot and never come back to it or I could create a oneshot and then write two more chapters to accompany it. Then it'll just grow as it does kinda thing?
So really, it just depends on the characters and my creative mood at the time as to what I prefer! I'm up for anything though :')
4. How do you juggle writing and your personal life?
Do what now? Well. Fun fact - most of my chapters are written over the course of about a week or maybe even two at intervals of around ten minutes to an hour.
I'm a full time music performance college student and that comes with a shit ton of work, I'm also pursuing a career with a band and writing music and doing art and stuff all the time.
But usually, when I take a breather from work and decide I want to slip away into another world for a while I start writing. I sometimes stay up until like 4am writing too which I wouldn't recommend.
So really, I just get it in when I've got nothing important to do and I try to use it as something chill to do so that I don't start to find it becoming a chore. It should be fun!
Plus, I'm pretty shit socially and have like three friends and my sister that I talk to. I basically stay in the house nonstop and only hang with them if my sister organises something so...if you're a socially anxious recluse like me you should be fine with juggling stuff.
5. You mostly write Frerard, so how did you first get into that ship?
Frerard has been a thing I've been aware of since 2004/5 when it started to surface and I first watched them act that way toward each other. I don't think the term 'ship' was used back then!
But basically from a long term love of the band and its members I've always known and loved the idea of it. God damn I'm getting old...
6. Do you have a book of yours that you would recommend for people not sure where to start?
CEMETERY DRIVE PLEASE AND THANK YOU. No but it's really my favourite work and I think anyone can either love it from the start or learn to love it. My Gerard character? He's a smooth talker. He'll make you love him.
But if you're not into vampires I'd suggest I am not afraid since I love that one too although it's on hold right now ^_^
7. You also post your art on here. Do you like writing or drawing more?
Ffs man that's like choosing between my children! I'm gonna just say neither. I love making music more and then writing and drawing won't fight about who I love the most. Writing and drawing are my children but music is my soulmate.
8. Has your experience with Wattpad helped you grow or change at all as a person?
Yeah I guess it has! Mostly with my internal battles, my sexuality and gender identity has always been a curious thing to me, but awesome people on here have been epic in helping me realise I'm human and that's okay.
Also through the epic people on here, I have a support through my anxiety and my depression and my insecurity with how I look, people don't understand how much just asking if I'm okay means to me.
I'm glad I have that support when I need it, no judgment. You guys have made me more confident in myself that's for sure, as well as more steadfast with what I want to do with my life! So thank you ^_^
That's how Wattpad has helped me grow, just by having an awesome network of amazing humans that give a shit and believe in me.
9. If you could go back in time and do something differently on Wattpad what would it be?
Hmm...maybe not create ten million books? Nah I'm joking. I'd change nothing. What I've done so far has given me so much, it's given me some amazing friends that I would never trade. You guys know who you are you epic humans.
10. What has been your best moment on Wattpad so far?
There's a few. My interview with DoctorGay and being nominated for this interview! Also over 9k reads on Cemetery Drive since I thought in the beginning everyone would hate it and also meeting my friends.
Oh and that one time I grew some balls and messaged njmurderscene and I'm really glad I did that. That's a fucking highlight.
I hope I didn't disappoint with my answers! Love you guys!
