“Myra, Come on we’ll miss our flight!”, My boyfriend, Alexander shouts.
“Just a minute, I’m just getting dressed!”, I shout as I walk over to my drawers.
I pick up a pile of clothes that I haven’t packed and root through them in a rush. I decide on a dark green tank top, red tarten shirt, jeans and my navy converse.
I then walk into the bathroom and braid to the side as I usually do. In the corner of my eye the sparkle of my Dad’s necklace gleams beautifully. A simple teardrop shaped piece of metal means so much to me. My Dad’s old saying ‘My world begins and ends with you’ is engraved on it. When he died I wouldn’t bury him with it because I needed a piece of him. I clasp it in my hand and as Alexander comes up to check on me. He leans against the doorway as I put the necklace on. Alexander takes my case and runs his hand through his black curly hair as he does so.
A car horn honks outside and I run down the stairs. The taxi awaits. I take a deep breath and look at my home for the last time.
Present:
Pain. That’s what I feel. It zooms from my thigh towards my hip. My eyes flutter and they open without command. A wet object slides across my cheek. I sit up with a jolt of pain. A labrabor sits beside me. But that’s not the only thing I notice. I’m in a jungle. Bamboo and banana trees are abundant around me. I hold onto a banana tree and stand up slowly. Smoke appears to the north of the jungle. My first instinct is to run. But then I hear a familiar voice calling my name. “MYRA! Where are you?!”, Alexander calls. He sounds distressed and in pain. “I’m here!”, I shout. He runs over to me and the first thing I notice is the minor cut on his temple. He grabs my hand and we head north towards the smoke. I stumble over tree roots as I see a glimpse of the ocean. We reach sand and Alexander lets go of my hand and runs over towards the crowds of people screaming and running away from the destroyed plane. Alexander’s old military skills come into use as he spots a pregnant lady being helped by a man in a suit. I stand still, not knowing what to do.
Flashback:
Alexander leads me through the aisles and we find our seats in the middle section of the plane. I sit at the window and put Alexander puts my case and carry on bag in the over head compartment. I close my eyes and drift of to sleep before we take off.
........
I wake up with a harsh jolt and Alexnader grabs my hand. “Myra, The pilot says we’ve lost contact with ground control”, He says staring into my eyes. As he says this the air hostesses scurry along as the turbulance gets worse. “What’s gonna happen?”, I ask. “We turned back towards Fiji a while ago but the turbulance is getting really bad”,He says. “We aren’t gonna crash are we?”, I ask as the plane creeks eerily. “No, It won’t crash”, He says, he tries to sound reassuring. I sit back into my seat. I strap myself in as does Alexander. A dark skinned woman sitting in the row in front of us sobs loudly as she clutches her necklace. The man in the row opposite her tries to calm her down but she just keeps on sobbing. I grasp my necklace and hold it close to my heart. The air masks drop down as the engine makes a frantic sound. I attempt to put mine on but my hands are shaking too much. Then the loudest noise I have ever heard comes from behind me. I look behind and I see the tail end of the plane falling off. The ocean is in plain view. I whip back around and the overhead compartments open. Cases fall out and one hits The man a few rows ahead of us. The blood splatters all around us. “I love you, Myra”, Alexnader says. His blue eyes stare into mine. “I love you too”, I say as I choke on a sob. “We will make it to L.A, I promise you!”, He shouts. He kisses me quickly before the plane drops throught the sky and my head hits of the seat in front of me.
.......
I run over to the man helping the pregnant woman. “Are you a doctor?”, I ask. He nods while trying to help the woman up. A chubby man with curly hair wanders over. “Stay with her!”, The doctor says to the chubby man. Alexander is nowhere to be seen and I run down the beach past all of the injured people and the survivors who aren’t injured like myself. I can’t seem to find Alexander.
